Default RC Aerodyne Bell UH-1B build

Just recieved my Huei. My first impressions are favorable. Both of the armanent pods are broken. I hope I can repair them acceptably. The documentation is on a mini CD. I hope my computer can play it. Not too happy about that, but it should be more readible than the AS550 I built; the docs for it were unreadable. The removable tail panel is warped like a pretzel; it might cause me some problems.

If anyone is interested I will post progress pictures.

Jack

Yes, please do. I am in the middle of a Hirobo Huey myself and like to see what others are doing. Is that the fuse for the Trex 600?

well I am back.

Yes the fusulage is designed for the Align 600E. THe mini disk comes up with corrupted or non supported file. It is going to be fun building this without docs.

OK: the PDF file is definitely bad. Does anyone have a good copy, they could send to me?

Being it's just a PDF file mabe they could email you a new one. I'm about to go to sleep, but tomorrow I'll look for someone on another site that I have talked to that if I remember right helped designed that fuse.

Default UH-1 Build plans PDF

Jack,

I sent you the PDF. I don't know if you bought it directly from Smart models http://www.smartmodel.com.hk/ or if you bought it from an American distributer Skyhunter Hobby out of California http://www.skyhunter357.mfbiz.com/

I really like dealing with Skyhunter. I've bought a couple fuselages from him and some parts as well with no problems, great communication and fast shipping. Plus since he's located in North America he can inspect everything before it goes out and any problems like the ones you are describing he can deal directly with the manufacturer and save us (the customers) the trouble. In any case, I was able to order a custom UH-1 through Skyhunter that came in white gel coat since I want to do a SAR paint scheme on mine. Its still in the box so I can't say to much about the build yet. However, the CD worked fine. Let me know if you have any problems with the PDF but it worked great for me in Adobe Acrobat 7. Good luck with the build.

Regards,

Jason

Well thanks to Jason I now have a working pdf file. I had most of it figured out, but it was nice to have the file. All the helicopters that I built, with raised tail, were flex drive; This was the first to use belt drive. I was surprised to see, that they left the tail boom on. I was ready to build it without the boom; allowing the belt to flop in mid air.

The docs show the tail rotor to be on the non scale side. I have not made up my mind on that one though.

Very little is mentioned about the rudder control. I will have to solve that problem myself. I probably will use golden rod.

The plywood floor is flimsier than I like so I gave it a layer of cloth.I installed two more pegs to align the front section with the fuselage a little better.

The doors fit well, but are a different color than the fuselage. They sent a small bottle of touch up paint, so that will not be a problem. The doors are held closed with magnets.

Hi hows your build? Do you think if there are any issues with using Trex 600ESP? Thanks

I am using an ESP.You have to change both frames. The servos are now directly connected to the swash, without using the intermediate bell-cranks. New rods are required. The motor is dropped 2 inches as is everything. The motor will now, no longer fit between the bottom frame. You have to eliminate much of the bottom plate.

This helicopter is perfectly suited to a torque tube and an angled tail box. I don't know why they decided to go with a belt.

I decided to have the tail shaft come out the scale side. There was no description of how the tail control was done so I invented my own method. If anyone is interested I will post pictures.

After finally getting a working copy of the PDF file, I read " this kit is not intended for beginners". Boy are they not kidding. Not that it is hard, but because they make no mention of some important things and show other things that are darn near impossible to do.

well there always has to be a negative. I mentioned that both the armement packages were broke and that the doors were a different color; the supplied touch-up paint had dried up. Four E-Mails resulted in someone telling me that he would talk to someone when he got back from China last Monday. A follow up note from me was also ignored. I would say if you buy from this company, you are on your own.

The kit uses its own frames (metal) and a belt drive system so you won't be able to use the torque tube drive system of the ESP. Really, this is a great build for that older Trex you have lying around since you use the kit frames/belt...the only benefit of using the ESP would be the upgraded motor/esc over the older kits such as the first generation aluminum framed, XL motor kit.

I'm interested to see how your build is going as well!
