Default What's better here - Logo 500 or Logo 400?

Hi
I am looking for a new Mikado heli, V-bar setup for sure

Price is not an eliminating factor in itself, just wondering if it is worth going the Logo 500 route, or just stick to the Logo 400.

What's your input on that?
They both use 6S1P packs that I already have, does the weight/size have a significant impact in this case?

Any issues worth mentioning on any of these models?
Is the Logo 500SE a good kit to have?

I am not considering the Logo 600 as I find it a bit exagerated size wise, plus I do not already own battery packs that would work fine on it... An investment that I am not willing to do at this stage.

I like the frame design on the 500 more. The swash servos sit vertically around the head at 120 degrees with direct connections. And of course they say bigger flies better... I'd go for the 500 unless you have a small field and want a smaller machine.

What size are they? The 500 with 550mm blades will run best, and longest, with better than 4000mAh packs, preferably 5000mAh like I run. On my Logo 500 running the 0.7 mod gears and a 15T pinion, I get about 8 minutes of flight time sport flying with a 6S 5000 pack.

Thought so, since you were debating the 400/500 option. You'd be sorely disappointed trying to use those in a Logo 500, so I agree that the 400 is a better choice if you want to keep using those packs.

You'll be really happy with a 500 however most run 550mm blades on it for a good disk loading. The 500 runs so quiet and its really a much bigger heli than a 400. BTW if your not completely satisfied you can up it to a 500se .

Guy I know is selling his 400 v-stabi for a rediculously low price here

http://runryder.com/helicopter/t5345...top=1250911274

I helped him setup the file and it flying, it is a pretty awesome machine to say the least, it is almost identical to mine in setup really.

Oh tanks guys for your replies
So what is the minimum battery required for a good flight on the Logo 500?

25C? 30C? these get expensive very quickly...

I have a logo 10 3d flybarred which i believe is the predecessor of the 500. With a hacker c50-15L on a 5s 6000mah pack It will last 15 minutes and take about 5200mah out of the pack. However I only now go about 10 or 12 minutes because I don't want to ruin the $320 thunder power batt. The setup is alittle slow for 3d though as i run it with 500mm blades and 13T, with a max gov headspeed of 1650 on a cc 80.

Just get yourself some Turnigy packs from Hobby City. A 6S 5000 20C is about $85 (including EMS shipping). That will be just fine for sport flying. If you do hard 3D, there's a 30C pack that's $125 (including EMS shipping).

I'm a bit confused. Mikado's web site says that you can use 500mm/520mm blades with Logo 500. So it can use 550mm blades as well out of the box, or does it need some longer tail parts or something?

500 or 400 ? Well, asked myself the same question after selling my ESP500 in order to replace it with a Logo. It's all very personal, and in this case bigger is better, I admit. But as some said, I can use all my 6S/2500mAh packs and charger from my ESP, keep my transportcase, and don't have a very large flying field around, and all this made the choice very simple. 400 it is. If I ever regret the choice, I have at least the vbar system I could re-use in a 500 or 600, and sell the bare 400. If I ever should want to sell it... I like this size, it's so versatile, easy to transport, yet big enough for easy maintenance and not too expensive, given the things mentioned above.
I even hope to be able to use some 3S zippy's from my 450 in series with the new Logo, they are 2200mAh/30C, so they won't give me long flying times, but should at least be strong enough, I hope...

Redbird, keep us posted on your thoughts about the L400. I am between the T-500ESP and L-400 right now. I have two T-450's, and they are great 3D learners, but i want to buy for quality/performance this time, not just cheap/parts availability. i am leaning towards the L-400 big time, but the T-500 isn't a bad heli at all..... much better design the the 450 V2! What did you not like about the T-500?

oops... sorry. not trying to hijack....

No Hijacking, I relate to the same dilema more or less, and any answer to your question would help mine too

cheers

This could lead us into a big discussion Trex against Logo, don't want that.
They are both good heli's, with a different price tag, keep that in mind.
The way I see it, is that the Logo400 is simply the next step after a 500ESP.
What I didn't like about the 500ESP ? No major things in fact, but there is the screaming main gear, the vertical play in the main gear (needed to make me an extra 0,3 mm washer between the gears to eliminate most of the slop), too many screws to watch (and to strip eventually), the tailblades touching the ground easily, too much slop in the stock tailhub (easy to fix), the need for a full size tailservo like a S9254 if you want to hold the tail really well, the fragile torque tube with only one bearing to support it (i did put tree bearings around the torque tube to make it run more smoothly) AND I didn't like all the "bling" (but that's very personal).
In fact, I wanted a flybarless heli, which you should not compare against a flybarred heli, and converting the Trex didn't sound like the best idea. That's about it.
IMHO, if you have the money, definately go for the Logo, you won't look back. But nothing wrong flying the 500ESP, parts are available everywhere, there is much support, and its attractive price makes it a good choice. Just my 2 cents...

I think I will wait for the Logo 500 SE and invest in new LiPo's. A christmas project
Until then, I will keep practicing with my current models, and probably start by selling my Trex 450SE V2!
