Default Should demand OS engines replace my engine?

I had a OS 50 hyper for 2 months, I flew the heli every two days since I got it, I never let it sit. When I knew I wasn't going to fly for about 4 days I put some after run oil in.

My engine failed and tore itself, they said the rear bearing was rusted. I looked at the rear bearing. I didn't see rust, but I saw some brown tarnishing on it. Could this have been from the castor oil in my powermaster fuel?

I don't see how the bearing could rust in 2 months with daily use.

I purchased a new OS 50 hyper in the meantime, and this engine performs so much better and runs so much cooler than my previous engine. The last engine was a tuning nightmare, so I think something was wrong with it from the beginning and they should send me a new or refurb engine for free.

What do you guys think? They offered $75 to repair it, but I don't see why I should pay anything.

The $75 repair is a good price

Bearings will rust if moisture gets to them

Given that you never had the engine running well I'm not sure it's fair to ask OS to cop it

The brown color on the bearings is likely to be the fuel dye

Ok, thanks for your comments.

So bearings can rust in two days? I literally flew the heli every two days since I got the engine. Our field is open, tues, thursdays, and on the weekends.

It never ran right, I never got the power power out of the engine, and I had to have my mixture screw very lean to get it to start. I know this now because my new OS 50 hyper runs like a champ and it runs 20-30 degrees cooler than the last one too. Same setup.

They won't rust in two days but the cumulative idle time over two months can do it
Running lean and hot gives the bearing a hard time also

I spoke with an OS tech today and he said they will rust overnight!

Just because you run your engine every couple days does not mean the bearings will not rust. The rust is not just from letting an engine sit. The fuel we use is hard an the engine, it pulls moisture from the air and exhaust gases are corrosive.

Replacing your bearings is easy, there are even videos on YouTube. It's just part of the hobby, especially if you run high nitro fuel like 30%.

typical OS bs on warranty

the rust is probably on the back of the bearing and will happen and NOT effect the race of the bearing.

Something probably just failed and they are using this to deny the warranty.

I prefer YS over OS. When I use OS I pretty much consider the warranty non effective ie NOT there.
