Thumbs up DX7 all 4 banks

Been playing around with the mixes on my DX7 and I've figured out how to get the first 3 banks linked to the flight mode switch, so that NORMAL, IDLE 1 and IDLE 2 each have a bank assigned to them and the fourth bank is controlled by the THROTTLE HOLD switch. When the THROTTLE HOLD is activated, the VBAR switches to the fourth bank regardless of any other switch positions. This means that the fourth bank can be set up with settings specifically for autorotations.. I've found this quite useful as I've set collective common a bit higher on bank 4 to give me 1 degree more pitch than the other flight modes. All of this only uses 2 of the 3 available mixes and the 3rd mix on the DX7 is used to control the rev limiter in my 7100R. I have the limiter active in all 3 flight modes, around 1750 in NORMAL, 1850 in IDLE 1 and 1950 in IDLE 2.
If anyone is interested in these settings and mixes, I'll post em soon as I finished work..

I had all 4 modes setup on my Logo 400 before I switched to the mini-Vbar. I used the gyro menu to set the gear endpoints. Then I used a mix for idle 2 to move the endpoint and another mix tied to the gear switch to get the 4th bank.

I just wish there was some documentation as to how the mixes work, i.e. the equations. It still seems like black magic to me. I tried mixing AUX2->GEAR to allow me to use my flight mode switch to control the Gear channel, but I could never figure out even the "pass-through" settings.

OK these are the settings I have. I'll give the settings for the rev limiter first and then the settings for
bank switching. Obviously the limiter settings will only apply to nitro and not the electric guys.

The limiter is controlled by the GEAR channel. In the system menu of the DX7, go to [INPUT SELECT] and make sure GEAR is INH.
So the screen should look something like this:

[INPUT SELECT]

AUX2 GEAR
F.MOD INH

While in this menu set the AUX2 to F.MOD as shown. This will be used for Bank switching so might as well set that while you here.

Exit the system menu and go into setting menu. Scroll down to the TRAVEL ADJUST menu and set GEAR travel so that the screen looks like this:

[TRAVEL ADJUST]
GEAR PIT
+ 100% H ???%
- 0% L ???%
AUX2
+ ???%
- ???%

Now scroll to SUB TRIM menu and set GEAR to +120 so that the sceen looks like this:

[SUB TRIM]
GEAR PIT.
+120 ???
AUX2
???

So what we have so far is the GEAR channel at about 70% (set by the sub trim value of +120) which equates to a limiter setting of around 1750 rpm. You can adjust the value of +120 either up or down to give you the heaspeed you want in NORMAL mode.

The setting for IDLE 1 is set using PROG.MIX1. Scroll to PROG.MIX1 and enable it. Make sure you toggle the Flight Mode switch to IDLE 1 position. Change settings so that the sreen looks like this:

[PROG.MIX1]
GEAR- GEAR ON
RATE: + 10%
- 10%
SW:F-S12
OFFSET: 0

So now we have set the IDLE 1 headspeed. How this works is it adds the value of 10% to the whatever value is set in NORMAL mode. So here we have 70% (Normal Mode) PLUS 10% to give an IDLE 1 value of 80% which in my case equates to a limiter setting setting of 1850 rpm.

The setting for IDLE 2 is set using PROG.MIX3. Scroll to PROG.MIX3 and enable it. Make sure you toggle the Flight Mode switch to IDLE 2 position. Change settings so that the sreen looks like this:

[PROG.MIX3]
GEAR- GEAR ON
RATE: + 9%
- 9%
SW:F-S2
OFFSET: 0

This works the same way as in IDLE 1 and adds the value of 9% to the value in NORMAL AND the value in IDLE 1. So in this case what we have is 70% (Normal Mode) PLUS 10% (IDLE 1) PLUS 9% (IDLE 2) to give a combind value of 89% which equates to a limter setting of 1950 rpm in my case.

To get 4 Bank Switching

Make sure the [INPUT SELECT] in the DX7 menu looks like this:

[INPUT SELECT]

AUX2 GEAR
F.MOD INH

Exit the System Menu and go to the settings menu.
Scroll down to the SUB TRIM menu and make AUX2 -40 so that sceen looks like this:

[SUB TRIM]
GEAR PIT.
+120 ???
AUX2
- 40

Now go to TRAVEL ADJUST menu and set AUX2 values to +125% and - 75% so that the screen looks like this:

[TRAVEL ADJUST]
GEAR PIT.
+ 100% ???
- 0% ???
AUX2
+125%
- 75%

So far we have 3 banks tied to the Flight Mode switch. The fourth bank which overides everything else is
controlled by PROG.MIX2 and is activated by the HOLD switch. First make sure that your THR HOLD is set to use the RUDDER D/R switch and that the THR HOLD screen looks lik this:

[THR HOLD] OFF

HOLD POS. ?.?%

SW:RUDD D/R

Now scroll to PROG.MIX2 and enable it. Toggle the HOLD switch to the ON position. Set the values so that the screen looks like this:

[PROG.MIX2]
AUX2- AUX2 ON
RATE: -100%
-100%
SW:HOLD
OFFSET:+ 40

Thats it.. Now scroll to the servo monitor screen and check that the Flight Mode switch in NORMAL gives an output on the AUX2 channel of 100%. Switching to IDLE 1 gives an AUX2 output of -25% and switching to IDLE 2 gives an AUX2 output of -100%. Switching the THROTTLE HOLD switch ON at any time should set the AUX2 channel to +25%.

So finally what we have is:

Normal Mode - Bank 3 active
IDLE 1 - Bank 1 active
IDLE 2 - Bank 0 active
THR HOLD - Bank 2 active

Even though the bank switching is not in order. ie: 0,1,2,3, this makes absolutely no difference to the operation. The numbers 0 thru 3 are simply just names for the banks. Remember to copy your working bank to all the other banks before changing settings and TRIM flights so that you know you have all banks flyable.

Obviosly the AUX2 channel does the bank switching so you need a lead from Receiver AUX2 to Vbar AUX. And make sure Bank Selection is set to "Bank 0/1/2/3"

Hope I explained all this okay. Please let me know if I missed something or if anything is unclear..

Hi impi62

I wonder if we can make the the Bank Switch like this
Normal mode: Bank 0 active
IDLE 1 : Bank 1 active
IDLE 2 : Bank 2 active
THR Hold : Bank 3 active

Because I mess up with the bank active when switching the flight mode, and I change the value wrong in different bank.
Thank you
