Default Ive got "BIG BALLS" & easy mesh mount

Kudos to Ben (Wazzer) for designing and fabricating this "GREAT" mod.

If you have the Gaui CF frame....this mod allows you to

1. get rid of the small one way shaft bearings.....

2. adds an "X" brace to remove frame flex.......

3. adds a ingenious motor mount that eliminates the pain of meshing the pinion properly.....

4. AND allows you to change pinions in a flash as the motor mount stays in the frame....

To accomplish this mod you will need to purchase a few items....
(I will update with part #'s in the future)

2 each main shaft bearings (these become the OWB)
2 flat head .3mm cap screw...(i used .3mm x6mm) These are to attach the flate motor plate to the motor.

2 socket head srews or similar to secure the "X" brace to the frame sides.

2 bolts and nuts to use to secure the sliding motor plate

items recieved are in the TOP row. You need to use the the tail drive shaft, bearings and upper bearing plate from your old set up.

heehee the ones on top look MUCH better!!

for the countersunk screws to mount the motor onto the plate, i ended up getting some 3.0 x 8mm "Countersunk Machine Screw (Hex Head)" by dubro racing. part #2286 or DUB2286

I accomplished this mod WITHOUT splitting the frames.....all work was done with heli pretty much in tact.

To start....remove your rotor assembly and tail boom.

Then remove the motor and mount.

Remove the 1st gear, OWB, and shaft.

Now remove all screws holding the main bearing plate, lower OWB plate, and upper tail drive bearing plate.

You should now be able to remove these pieces.

I have been having a little noise.....my lower OWB was TOTALLY gone !! nothing left but the inner race !!

OK...now you need to assemble the motor mount and "X" brace. Trial fit it and make sure the "X" is positioned correctly for where you will drill the holes. I had to remove both control pivot arms to get good access.

After I was sure all the holes lined up I put the motor mout OUTSIDE the frame and used the "X" brace as a reference point to drill the holes....just mark the frame....don't drill through the aluminum brace or you might mess up the threads.

Then swap over the tail shaft bearings, the motor mount bearing, and install the larger OW shaft beaings in their positions and the original main shaft bearing.

I used a small press to ensure they were all seated.

as mentioned in the frame directions....install the lower OW bearing mount facing UP and the main plate mount facing DOWN. That means that is the way the bearings would fall out or be repplaced...

Install everything back in the frame....catch a coupl of bolts on the upper tail drive bearing....then press the main bearing holder down and it fits right in place. Secure the lower OW "Big Balls" bearing plate and bearing in place....

DO NOT TIGHTEN these units until everything is in place and shafts are installed, that way there will be no binding.

OK.....now the Fun part comes of aligning the first gear.

Start by installing the one way shaft.(you do not need the OWB at this time)...you will not be able to install the gear due to the aluminum collar being too large. This collar must be sanded down to the proper height and should be done carefully. This will space the gear in the frame slots. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel and rubbed the collar on the side of the spinning disk.....take small amounts...and I held it with hemostats...(it gets hot)!

My spacer started at 490mm wide....when I finished it was at 337mm. My gear sits prefectly spaced in the slot. Make sure you remove the allen screws and line up the holes perfectly with the dimples on the shaft....this took some trial and error but this is where you make or break it on the gear fitting in the side slots....so take you time.

Next was to install the Easy Mesh Mount to the frame (I luv this thing)

Using the flat screws attach the motor plate to the motor

go over and loctite and secure all bolts on all installed parts

Adjust your pinion depth to match the gear, tighten it up....

**NOTE....had to file the flat a little deeper....the pinion sits at the end of the shaft due to the added plate.**

This is as far as I got.......just need to install motor and tighten it up....loctite all fastners...and I should be done.....

OK....to finish this up......I installed the pinion and due to the added plate I had to file the "flat" a little higher on the shaft. The pinion sits at the end of the shaft.....

I also had to remove the OWB washer as it was locking up the OWB. I would install it first...and then see if the bearing turns freely.

The total mod on the Gaui frame only takes a few hours....and the "Big Balls" bearings are worth it just for that......The motor mount is "fantastic" perfect gear lash adjustment EVERY TIME !

When Wazzer becomes a millionaire.....we can all say we "knew him when".....
