Default moving the tail servo to the boom

I have had a very exciting day, i went to the lhs to buy myself 3 hs-65mg's for my cyclic and an align ds420 digital for my tail, along with a male dean plug for my esc, 4 pack of trex skids 4 pack of trex plastic tail blades, some thread lock, servo wire mesh protecter tubing, thread lock, and a million other little things.

i got home to find that my aluminum tail and head arrived as well! well those were fairly easy to put together and the 65's were pretty self explanatory. the digital tail servo was not however. i have spent half an hour trying to find a detailed demo, preferably with pictures, on how to boom mount the servo. i have already mounted it on my boom with two aluminum boom mounts and understand most whats involved physically.

however i cannot find any easy to read instructions about how to position my servo for the "most throw". or how to test my throw really. If any of you guys could point me in the direction of a nice tutorial or explain it to me in layman's terms i would be very grateful.

also did i make a good choice? i am pretty good freinds with the hobby shop owner and he knows where i am at talent wise, he recomended the servo combo for my skill level. and one more thing, i have been told that once you upgrade to a digital tail servo you can change something on your stock gyro to make it perform better, how do i do that?

Most throw... if you look at the tail pitch slider as you move the bell crank you'll see the assembly has a range of motion. That's the total throw. Center your servo (use the radio) and attach the linkage to the servo and the tail pitch bell crank. Move the servo on the boom until the tail pitch slider is centered and tighten your screws. Power up the radio. Check the rudder throw and make sure the servo can "utilize" the entire range of motion of the pitch slider. If the range is too low, it doesn't "bottom out" the slider at each extreme, check the Tx's Rudder Travel Volume and increase the range until you do reach each mechanical limit. If the range is too high, you still have "stick" left when the pitch slider bottoms out, reduce the Rudder Travel Volume until it doesn't. Note, though, some Gyros include a programmable servo travel limit in the Gyro - you may have to make adjustments there, too. Also, if the range is way out of whack (either too high *or* too low), meaning you have to make a big change to the Travel Volume, set the TV back to 100% and move the linkage one hole in or out on the servo arm, lather, rinse, repeat.

i have a dx6i
on the servo package it says: 4.8 volt:.75kg.cm,.08 sec/60
6.0 volt: 1kg.cm, 0.06 sec/60

don't know if thats at all helpful...
this mod is not going so well, i easily have full throw now, the servo is super quick but it is centering and then sort of moving over as the head speed goes up. i centered it just right but the gyro isn't holding. i switched it to ds, since i have a digital servo, could that be the problem? is there anything els i need to do to fully utilize my digital servo?

What ever you do, DO NOT run this servo on 6V on the tail, it will last for 5 minutes if you are lucky.

ESC's are usually preset to either 5v or 6v. Some are programmable to either. If you have one that's 6v and your servo only takes 5v then you use a stepdown plug.
