Hi
Just switched to the ice 100 in rpm gov mode with a 4025-1100 14t pinion, on 6s. The castle link will only let the rpms go to 1719 and stay in the black. While playing with the software it says i need to run an 18t to get near 2100. What is everyone else with this setup running pinion wise? If i go with the 18t can I can step it back but be able to get to 2100, correct? Also while running at 1719 I had a few spikes of 2500 watts show up on the data logging, and it seem the tail blew out right at that spike. Flew the stock 75 amp align esc for a year and half with no problems, was this a bad idea to fix some thing that was not broken? thanks for the help. Robert |

14T is a bit low.
I think you need to decide what headspeed you wanna run and then select pinion, going with low rpm on a 18T pinion is not very effective. I also use a 1100KV motor with 15T and hav gov set at 1841 RPM (max). I think a 16 or a 17 would be good if you want higher HS. EDIT: I hope you are not on the 2.18 beta firmware?

I have been reading your threads about this esc and your motor troubles. Going with 15t was my initial thoughts but after plugging the numbers in the castle link it was still giving low head speeds. So that is why i was going with the 18t. When I was saying running a lower head speed i mean the 1850 in idle 1 and idle 2 1950. As for the tail blow outs, just doing flips, and that is where the spike in amps and watts are. And no to the 2.18 I read all bad about it. What flight times are you getting off of 1850? thanks robert |

I would try running a 15T or 16T pinion w/ the ESC set in High Gov. mode. From all the reports I've seen, it seems that Castle's recommendation for gearing is a little off in Set RPM mode. Apparently, their default value for headroom is more than most setups require. Several guys have been able to gear down 1 or 2 teeth when switching from Set RPM to High Gov. mode.

I am currently on 16T and yes, SetRPM indicates very low RPM (1900). I'm thinking of going 17T, but even that is still low according to SetRPM. Maybe I should try the high governor mode, but I don't have a tach to measure what RPM it is.

guys, if you can get your desired headspeed in fixed endpoints, you can run it in governor mode.... any of them. The software is only a suggestion, and is not factoring in today's new li-pos that hold their voltage under load better. The software "recommends" a max speed of 85% of your 100% throttle so it has headroom. You can run up to 95%, if you're not hard on it.

When setting up SET RPM mode, the software is definitely conservative in relation to the max RPM for headspeed that it states. Castle Creations has even admitted it themselves.
I run a 4025-1100 with 16T pinion and have my three RPM's set at 1950, 2050 and 2150. Seems to work fine for me, but I don't fly too hard. I mostly fly at 2050. |

SET RPM at 2150, if I remember correctly, states my my throttle would be 104%

Iam on the highest firmware now. One way to make sure is to actually log your flight and monitor the "power-out %" parameter and see how it goes, if its not over perhaps 95% you are fine.

I set mine at 2150 in the ICE 100 software in governed mode. I sense that the power is not there, and I'm not a 3D stick banger either. With inner flips, I can hear the motor bogging. With a big loop, the motor is like quitting for a couple seconds during climb out at the top of the loop. I see another thread in this forum that set to 2250 with an Align 100A stock ESC. Maybe that's the route with a 17T pinion?
My setup is Trex-600ESP, Scorpion motor 4025-1100, ICE 110 ESC, BEC PRO, 16T pinion, Zippy 6s 5000 25c with 5 charges, Headspeed set: 2150. |
