Total newbie here:
I need to replace two servos after a crash. I've removed one servo but its still attached to the Rx via its cable. I've cut the cable ties that hold the cables together in a bundle. I haven't disassembled any other part of the heli. Is there a trick to unplugging the cables from the Rx? I'm guessing that I can't just unplug the two I need to replace, but have to unplug all of them? Is this true? I tried unplugging the left-most cable (the one beside the empty plug on the rx), but even while applying quite a bit of force it barely moved. I'm worried about breaking something if I apply any more force. Any tips for unplugging (and later replacing!) the cables from the Rx would be appreciated. Ian. |

Probably so tight b/c it's so new. Try gently rocking the plug back and forth a bit while you pull on the plug(not the wires).
If that doesn't work...get some small needle nose pliers and gently grab and pull them out.......Dentist style. |

Thanks GunnyGlow, can you confirm that I need to remove all of them in order to replace two of them? I have a hard time seeing any other way.
Also, is it safe to rest the heli on its side while I do this? I'd hate for there to be an collateral damage to any other components while I wrestle with the rx! |

You DO NOT need to remove all to replace one. It is usually easier to do this....but IF you do take them all out. BE SURE and label them. If you're new to the hobby....the order of the servo's in a Eccpm heli is pretty critical and an easy way to get frustrated.
Sometimes I lay my heli's on their side to work on them. But I try not to make a habit of it. Just put the blade holder on it and maybe lay it on a folded over towel or something relatively soft. |

You checked out Slysters Blade bible? It's worth looking over. http://helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=97659

If you do end up pulling them all out just click here to see where they all should go. Make sure you plug them in the right direction. Ground wire goes down and it's usually black or brown.

Are your servos dead or is it just the gears that are stripped?
If its the gears, they're less than 1/5th the cost of a servo and relatively easy to change. I got to the point of not even removing the cyclic servos to change the gears which saves all the hassle of removing cable ties and plugs and then re-routing cables again... You can undo the four screws on the case bottom and the two frame securing screws then pop the face cover off - change the gears and screw the covers back on... you will need to pop the elevator one out of its position because you can't get to the bottom screws but there is enough slack in the cable to let you work on it with it hanging out the front of the heli while its still connected. Hope that helps a bit. Chris |
