Too funny. I just finished installing the keychain cam on my 450 and was really excited to see it in action, so I convinced my wife to go out to the field w/ me. Took off and hovered around a bit and then decided to get fancy and do an inverted hover in front of us to get it on video.
All is well, except that I start losing power as I'm inverted and then realized I forgot to hit the IDLE1 switch!!! LMAO... quick, flick it back upgright before you dump it! Landed on the skids...zero damage! Camera is quite shaky though... need to fabricate some mount with the tempurpedic stuff or some gyro mount foam tape.

Nice. Quick thinking. As a precaution I never even use normal mode until my timer goes off and I want to land. I then put throttle to mid stick. when you are ready to take off just hit throttle hold again.
WARNING: this is assuming you are using soft start on the ESC. Dont try this on normal start in the ESC options. |

Yea that is pretty wobbly hey. I haven't tried mine out yet, what did you mount it with?

I used the spacer, like the other guy did in the first page of the camera thread. I now modified that mount and used a piece of plastic from an SD card case and a thick piece of this green gel stuff I got for the Skookum... it is a very thick gel-type mounting tape... very slick! I haven't tried the new mount yet...

I haven't gotten to try mine out yet (haven't flown a heli in a month or two) but I was thinking of doing a trick like certain gyro mfgs recommend for nitros.
Attach a little weight (ballast) to the camera case, maybe something like the size of a silver dollar, then attach that to your dampening material which is attached to the heli. Don't strap down the camera with velcro or anything. If you're worried about the camera falling off the heli in flight, use some very light wire to make a "leash" to very loosely secure the camera to the frame as a backup. The extra weight should dampen some vibrations by giving the camera more inertia -- the size and weight will probably vary for different helis and headspeeds. The frame spacer mount loooks cool, and may work for very well balanced helis, but I'm imagining the camera fixed at the end of a short rod will have more vibration/resonance issues than if it was just hard mounted to the frame itself. |

Yeah, I just tried another flight with the modified mount and couldn't watch the whole thing... felt sick to my stomach! LOL
Terrible vibration! Back to square one with mounting options...

We should probably keep this to the original thread as it's good information, but now that i'm here (he,he). Referring to this link http://chucklohr.com/808/#Instructions3 the guy says...
"The cameras are not secured to the circuit board. A small dab of hot glue holds them in place so you can get it into the case, but once there, they are free to rattle around a bit. There are indexing standoffs cast into the case that hold the camera, but its still loose. I added a very small amount of foam packing to secure it better. This should help with areal videography a bit." I'm not sure I want to break into mine just yet but may be worth a try. ![]() What SD card are you using just out of interest?

Oh yea, nice save, quick thinking, now back to your camera Lol
I just took another look at the video where the camera was attached by the spacer and think that it's the best yet. Maybe it's a headspeed issue?

Dunno. I flew at IDLE2, 100% flat throttle... made sure of it this time! LOL
Think the mount needs more rigidity and somehow be more isolated from the frame. Gotta get the hamster running on this one... my brain cells are fried at the moment!

Thanks David. Yeah, I kinda liked that whole inverted auto... who knows maybe I'll do it again on purpose this time and see what happens! LOL

darn - I wasn't that lucky - I went to inverted but forgot the idle switch and head down straight with 2 blade stuck to the grass and the whole heli body was hanging up above....LOL only head damage of feathering, main shaft, , flybar and surprisingly the FG baldes are not even a scratch on them
Another one after that incident 5 min, I took out the 450 pro and went inverted and ![]() ![]() again forgot the idle up switch,,,,not much damage except the flybar, feathering, mainshaft, tail gear shaft (boom is ok since CF)...I sworn myself never forget the idle up switch any more!! |

LOL! That's exactly what I said when I landed! I got really lucky too, now that I think about it some more. My Normal curve is setup with only 3 degrees negative at full stick, since I only use it for taking off/landing. So if I had done a stationary backflip to get to inverted instead of a loop, I probably wouldn't have had enough juice to flip it back... The forward momentum and the 3 degrees of negative pitch were just barely enough to get it over again... so yeah, WOW!
But you know what??? I was friggin' DUE! After my headaches with the Skookum, I needed a win! Hey, the Skookum on the 500 is dialed in... come over and lets fly!

Thanks!
Ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=160379668644 $13 delivered! Can't beat that... but you'll need to get a MicroSD card. I'm using an old 1Gb card I had from an old cell phone. Stores at least two full flights.
