I just read through this thread.. What do you guys think is the best for a 700N? I know the nitro vibrates a bit more. I just have one piece of the align gyro tape. My chopper seemed like it was gonna tip over. I checked a few things and re-ran through the setup. I'm gonna try it again, this time with training wheels just in case

700E, Align pad, Align Metal plate, 3M tape. Very loose or no strap at all. Tail and 3G are perfect now. I also mounted an outrage 9188 tail servo so that probably helped with the tail.

700E, Align pad, Align metal plate, 4010 3M tape, no strap. Very well behaved now.

I see so many mixed reviews about whether to strap or not to strap.

Strap will depend upon how much vibration is in the heli. No vibes.....strap makes it very locked in and responsive........Vibes.......strap just transfers em and makes it worse.

Heli should be " SET UP" to be as vibe free as possible and ALL other wag-kick...etc. Need to be OUT before you can take advantage of the strap.

Hope this helps. PEACE!

Thanks.. I'll give both a try. It's a .91 Nitro, so vibration free is probably out of the question

"Plate " will take care of any excess vibes.

What are you guys using for the TREX? I bought the steel plate and tape kit from Align is this what works the best. I see 3M is used a lot on some combinations, where do you get this tape. Sorry I am new at all this.

Thanks
Bill

I tried the steel plate sandwiched between two of the tape pads from the kit mounted in on the anti-rotation bracket on my 550 3G , and it didn't like it, so went with a single tape from the kit.

I found the 3M 4010 tape at OfficeMax.

MS Protos 500. 9650s cyclic, 9254 tail, Align ESC, CC 10A BEC.

3G, 2.1 Mod'd sensor mounted on the boom block, using Mikado gyro tape, no strap working perfectly just like my mini-V bar on another Protos!

For some reason, i can't seem to get rid of a very slight rotor bounce on my Mini-V bar Protos but the 3G is smoother than a fly bar but much more stable.

On my 550E I arrived at the following which has been working flawlessly - no glitches, no funny behavior, and flies awesome:

- 3G 2.1 Sensor with the internal silicon rubber update
- Thin servo tape (I only used this because it's easier to remove than silicon. Basically we are mounting the plates to the sensor solidly)
- 3x Align metal plates glued together with thin layer of silicon (could be any adhesive that glues them solidly together.
- 1 Align gray gyro mount pad
- Frame

With this setup the sensor weighs in at around 23 grams which is in the range of other units like beastx. As a result, the extra mass is very effective in preventing higher frequency vibs from overwhelming the sensors.

Since this configuration worked so well on my 550E I've since modified my 250SE and 450Pro to use the same mounting arrangement and have seen a noticeable improvement in stability and "locked in" feel. This works really well for "scale", "sport", and mild 3D type flying. I haven't tried it in really radical 3D (because I'm not there yet) but I suspect something stiffer than the Align gray gyro pad might be required. A stiff mounting pad might work well overall but I just haven't tried it since the Align pads are working fine.

The other thing is the location on the ship. The cantilevered gyro mount on the 250SE is horrible because it's just like a little tuning fork. Best to just leave it off. Secret to success on the 250SE for me has been to mount the sensor about 3cm behind the motor on the base plate of the frame. Found that to be true on my 250SE BeastX ship as well.

I don't suppose you could post a pic of the 550e setup. Half done with mine and would like to see this

Has anyone tried mounting the sensors with velcro? I plan on doing so this weekend and will post my results. On race cars we mount accelerometers and yaw sensors with velcro instead of double sided tape because it transfers less vibration to the sensor this is extremely evident in the logs and creates a much better signal. I don't see why this wouldn't apply to helicopters but I haven't tried it yet.

If use 2 pieces of 4010 3m to mount the gyro sensor on a trex 500 3G (boom block) is there a problem?

I have mounted the sensor with 2 align foams but there is a lot of play!

What is the best place and combination for a 500 3G with 2.1 software.

Default Silicone

So im sitting here watching the silicone dry on the 3G senser, i then came up with a thought. Has anybody made a square mold out of Silicone and tried to use it to see if it will help with the vibrations ?

Would this be a good idea to even give it a shot ?
