Exclamation Flymentor...defective gyro or incorrect setup?

Hello everyone I am new on this forum but have been flying RC for a few years. I have tried to find my problem in the long list of previous posts on the KDS Flymentor but have not found anyone with the same problem yet. I am sorry if it has been addressed already and i just missed it. Anyway here is the problem I am having.

I have had my Trex 450 SE since 2006 and I just recently decided to install a scale fuselage. I came across the Flymentor one day and decided it might be fun to play with.

I am using a JR XP7202 TX with R790 RX there is absolutely NO mixing in the TX and swash is set to 1 servo normal. All servos are set to normal position in TX and servo 2 is reversed in HeliBal software. Everything else is default and at this time I have both green and blue wires unplugged so it is controlled through HeliBal and not my TX.

When I change the gain to 0 both stabilization modes are off and FM's mixing controlls everything on the swash correctly. From what I have read this is exactly what it is supposed to do. If I set the gain for Horizontal or Positioning mode the gyro will correct for roll but does not have any response for forward or backward elevator input. Also it will only correctly stabilize the roll if gyro and ccd is mounted backwards and the HeliBal program is set to mount forward.

If the nose of the heli is 12:00
left servo is in FM port 1
right servo is FM port 2
Aft servo is FM port 3
The signal wires from FM to receiver ar as follows.
black/red/white-aileron port 2
yellow-elevator port 3
rudder is disconnected as I am using an independent GY401
orange-aux 1 port 6
blue disconnected
green disconnected.

Do you feel this is a defective gyro unit or is it hopefully just an incorrect setup?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I believe I have determined that 1 of the 3 sensors in the gyro is defective if I set the mount position to left or right side I can now correct the elevator with the gyro but not the roll. I am starting to think it is a combination of not quite right setup with the roll control being reversed and a bad sensor in the gyro. Now I guess I need to see if I can get a replacement unit.

Hi, Your wireing seems correct for JR provided the plugs are in the correct way.
I think you are right you have a defective unit. I have come across this once before and the problem was that the orange wire was pluged in the wrong way around so just make sure. Ivor

Good to hear it is getting sorted. Yesterday I stumbled on a video on youtube showing a guy actually taking the gyro apart and fixing it, shame couldn't find it today but it looks interesting.

Wait to hear from you when you receive the new one

Wow sounds like the nightmare I have had. After reading this I came to the conclusion my gyro is defective. To fix this problem I just mounted it upside down, seems to work now

Then it is very unlikely to be defective and likely that it is set up incorrectly but if it is working and your happy with it then no matter. Some guy's have mounted it upside down as a matter of preference, it will work fine.

Thanks, I was afraid to try it, I got it from an auction site. Either the right and left was backwards or the foward/reverse. I will try to fly it now.

If it gives you problems let us know and we will talk you through setting it up correctly, we will need to know what model helicopter it is fitted on. Good luck.
