Good deal, I'm glad it's flying again. What's that white stuff tho? Going to wait for it to warm up before going someplace where you can really wring it out?

A little background on the video.

I had to stop because one of the boom supports came loose and was hanging off. The problem was that it was the front end of the support, the end that attahces to the frame, This meant that it was now pointing forward and down. This would have been dangerous trying to land with it in that position. So I had to fly backwards a bit and slide into a landing so the support wouldn't snag on anything or cause a tip over.
At the field on the second pack, one of the skids came off. It musdt have been weakend during the last crash and I missed it. I now had to find a way to land without a definite tip over. So I took a chance and found a spot on the grass where I could settle it in with a slight bank of ground on the right side, in effect becoming my skid on that side. I had to control the servos during the spool down to avoid a tip over.
Either way, they were successful flights.

Looking forward to getting back in the swing of things over the course of a few weeks, as well as spring and the time change.

Ed

Second pack. I also flew a third pack with the night rig on. Thought I pressed record on the camera but I must not have..dang it
The skid flies off at 2:50....you can see it fly through the air and land in the road just right of center..it hits hard enough to hear it when it lands.

Hi Ed - not sure what power system you're running there but it sounds like it's struggling a lot. What voltage / ESC / Motor / Headspeed are you running?

I didn't take very good care of them for the months I wasn't flying. Left them in the garage when it was hot and now the cold with whatever charge they had in them.

Thanks for the update Ed. I found I needed at least 2500 RPM to make my 550 liven up a bit.

I'll put the rpm app on it sometime this weekend hopefully. A couple new packs is really what is needed here. Glaciers are only good if you take care of them. Which i didnt. They are over a year old though...not sure of the longetivity of these big packs. I know my 3s packs didnt last long, but i beat them all to hell on my 450X...driving them really hard all the time.

I've captured a lot of battery data over the years - including temperature.

What I've found is ...

- High temperature kills them REALLY quickly. Up to 40 Deg C seems fine, but once you get closer to 50 Deg C it starts to degrade the battery. Beyond 55 Deg C and the pack life seemed to drop to about 1/4 of what other packs have done (with puffing).

- Not keeping them at storage charge doesn't seem to bother them for a few days, but it does seem cumulative - so if you're leaving them charged for a few days at a time AND only flying them infrequently - then they'll probably be sagging in a year. On the other hand if you leave them charged and fly them regularly then they'll still be sagging in a year, but by then they'll have done 200+ flights.

- I've never had an issue flying them down to LVC so long as the final bit isn't high load or creates high temp.

Just my experiences - people often don't agree with me so I'll let others read this and reach their own conclusions

Hope to get a head speed reading in the next couple of days.

Also going to check resistance on the charger on the two "good"packs I have.

Will report back.

I did another tuning flight on the rebuilt 550 last weekend. Beautiful day to fly with almost no wind. There were so many planes and helis in the air I only got to fly the 550 once. Boring flight that consisted of self level check for the iKon, deliberate tic tocs and some low head speed. Life is good.

After spending an hour or so the past few nights practicing on the sim, I was able to do my first inverted flying and loops.

Congratulations! First inverted is a big milestone. Your flying is about to change and it's a very cool thing.

We got gorgeous weather today and I was able to put in a couple lunch hour flights. Hadn't practiced any autos this year and it showed.
