Why 0.5A? Are you not able to use a smart balancing charger?

.5 should take about all day to charge

However 5.0 should in theroy charge in an hour and yes if your charger and supply will let you go to 5amps go for it

the MAH of the battery generaly breaks down the charge rate (1c anyhow)

5000 --- 5a
2650 -- 2.6s
1000 -- 1a

and so on.

2c and 3 c would double and triple these numbers. 1c is almost always suggested

Its the discharge that kills the battery, not the charging. Mine frequently spikes to 120a current draw while doing continuous tic tocs, and packs come down hot and bloated! Nowadays most packs are rated at 5c charging but its nearly impossible to reach that with our 6s 5000mah packs. The most ive done is 2c charging with my bantam, thats at 10amps charging, takes about 1/2 hour to charge and packs are hardly stressed and feel cold to the touch. Hope this helps.

You guys should take it easy on him. He is obviously newer to the hobby and just wants to take care of his investment. I see a lot of posts about people doing things because they are anal that I think are a total waste of time. As long as it is not dangerous let it be if it make em happy. Back to the question... there would be no harm in charging the batteries that slow, it will just take a real long time. But....you said you wanted to charge them over night, I am assuming you would be sleeping. You would be breaking an important rule of charging lipos. NEVER CHARGE UNATTENDED! You can look up some posts to see what can happen. As suggested read up on the hobby, dont just take one persons word.

That's not entirely true. Lipos take juice in much slower than they spill it out. Hence the 20C discharge but 1C charge, 30C/2C, 40C/5C and so on ratings. So, there's not much margin for error in charge current before going over the limit if you put it that way. One could easily kill a 20C/1C 2000mAh pack by discharging it at 10A and chargin at same current. Generally charging fast is known to cut down battery life. That's why many charge their 2C or even 5C batteries at 1 or 1,5C. Takes a little longer but makes your batteries happier.

On the other hand going below 1C is not worth it. The charge time is much longer but battery life will not increase.

I talked to ThunderPower and they stated that fast charging their G4 batts have no negative long term results.
