As experienced Pantera owners know, the canopy is larger than competing designs. If you fit a TRex 600 canopy on the model it looks odd. However, a 700 size canopy looks pretty neat. All this by way of asking what you'd pay for a prepainted FRP (fiberglass) canopy. All this 'splaining in hopes you dont think in terms of pricing like smaller 600 canopies but more like the reality we deal with, which is of a larger unit. Plus another thing to consider is we're nowhere near the sales volume of TRexes.
Anyway, assuming typical aftermarket paint styles, a 700-class canopy size-wise, what would you be willing to fork over for a prepainted canopy for your model? Yes, it would be in the new Wildcat style.

Wow.. I have no idea how to respond to the poll. Tastes in paint schemes vary greatly, and just selecting what we think is a fair price is kinda like bidding on a wife sight unseen. $40 for Miss America might be a great deal. $85 for LuLu most likely ain't.
I went with the middle price due to lack of knowing what I might be bidding on.

How about just a pure white FG canopy that will easily except paint!
Then each of us can easily (rattle-can or air-brush) paint our own.

$60 for a stunning paint job on a fiberglass canopy.
$25 for an unpainted canopy. If I could toss my hat in the ring for a bleach-bottle canopy of the same size and shape, with decals, for about $30, that would be AWESOME. It's what I'm used to paying for the T-Rex 700 canopies

I like the idea of the white FG canopy as well. It's gonna get a nice yellow paint job of some sort, but I'll always underlay the yellow with white to make it pop a little better
My question regarding the Tomcat canopy is... does it really look that close to the older T-rex, or is it just the ange that makes it look that way in the pictures?

Nope it is sort of that way. Wasn't intentional, just what worked out.

I haven't created the prepainted FRP canopies yet . . . so it's hard to have a direct link to the new canopies, eh? The very reason I am asking the question is to try and gage interest and price threshhold. After all, doing some market research "before" I fork over the dough to create a product, which may either have insufficient interest by customers, or only at a price I cannot afford to make them at, is what this is about. This is the case especially during tough times, e.g. when everybody may be pulling in their horns and saving their pennies. Believe me, I try to move carefully during this kind of economic environment, capiche? On the other hand, if what you want to know is, "What does the new Tomcat canopy look like?", well then, that's a horse of a different color! Here's a link:

Maybe I'm alone on this one but I love the look of the original Pantera canopy. If I every wanted something more flashy, I'd go pick up a prepainted 700 canopy; thewarbirdlover's yellow 700 canopy looks great on the Pantera.
John, I'm not trying to run you off but if your painted canopies could not be price competative I'm afraid that they won't sell well.

Yeah, but price competitive with what? Not with 600 canopies . . . ain't happenin', but probably close to the price of 700 canopies. What are they going for these days?

Going prices for 700 canopies look to be in the $80-95 range and for 600 canopies $65-85. So quality painted canopies in the $60-70 range for the Pantera would be very reasonable IMO. However, a price of $70-80 would be palatable.

align fiberglass 700N, white, $22. This is unpainted, of course. I imagine a tough price to beat. However, if it can be made in America at not too much more, I would buy. (I am now into painting my own) Rick |
