Default flymentor 3d newB questions

I am building a Gaui 425 and plan on installing the KDS Flymentor 3D. do i have to set the bird up with a regular gyro and get it all trimmed before installing the FM 3D? or can i install the fm 3d with the build and set it with out flying it first?

Hi

If you are expert in all aspect of helis, it is possible to incorporate FM with the build but not something I would recommend. I have seen/heard too many mishaps leading to premature crashes as result.

The best and safest way is to first complete the build and get the heli dialled in and then install FM. That way any new problems can easily be isolated.

This is a link to a cheap gyro:

Hope this helps.

I've only added flymentors to working helis so they were set up mechanically to start with and had a history of flying (and crashing ).
As has been pointed out elsewhere the heli does need to have a good mechanical set up to start with so you might as well build and fly.
If you are newish to this and are planning to go it alone then just follow the finless set up bible so you have as good a basic set up as possible then add the unit. Don't forget that the sub trims need to be taken off of the transmitter and the flymentor used to set the sub trims.
