F1 Rocket, have you used the HC3 FBL unit before? i've had a go at setting one up on a trex600. The procedure went ok but the flight tuning was a headache simply because the manual does'nt even give any tuning parameter explanation or tuning suggestions & so far the tail gyro seems less than impressive.
If you can shed some light on it's tuning it would be highly appreciated.

I have 10 flights on my Shape 9.0 and the machine is just awesome. Super smooth and powerful with a very cool sound. I ended up going with Edge 713 FBL's and 105's but the rest of the setup is as I posted earlier. I will post some photos as soon as I can.
I have been flying the HC3-X on a variety of machines since they were released. I agree the manual could be a bit more detailed in explaining what does what as far as tuning parameters. The best place to start is with one of the pre-sets available at www.helicommand.com. Also, download version 2.0 of the X series software if you do not already have it. Version 2. contains some embeded pre-sets for the Tail and Rigid pages. As far as tail performance I have found it to be as good as anything else I have flown. It is very important that you trim it in rate mode so there is little if any drift. That and make sure you have the gain as tight as possible. if you have uneven tail stops increasing the delay setting will help. For the head (Rigid) I have found that most machines with tolerate much higher gain settings on elevator than aileron. Danny |

I know this is kinda old but can you tell me how wide of a space their is for the motor, I plan on trying to fit a 5035 in their and want to know if it will have room.

No the 5035 will not fit.
The space between the frame plates is 60mm. I think you should send a email direct to the manufacturer. or ask readyheli.com US retailer for max. motor diameter. Motor max ~ 58mm i can not meassure the exact dimension. Best Regards, Christian |

Any on going maintenance needed?
I am very tempted to get the align 700E combo (sell the airframe) put all the goodies in this. I really want something for high RPM, the TDR is good but not really designed for high RPM. The trex 700E needs a few upgrades to do this. |

Hi,
no particular maintenance is required if the helicopter has been built properly. The only thing to check after the first flights is the gear mesh between crown gear and conical gear ( must be almost tight with no backslash) and for this you need to use the small shims provided. The helicotper flies and run very quiet and is pretty strong in case of crash : ) An english manual is about to be released ( text manual to go with the German manuals that contains drawings). The only 2 hard things when building the helicotper are: 1) install the main gear with the small shims the first time (but there are easy tweaks to do it) 2) Make a correct assembly of the elevator linkage housing, should be done absolutly properly Then, you just need a long hex key to reach the motor screws but nothing weird ( there are 2 holes on the lower horizontal plate to go through ) Except this, well this is a very nice machine to fly with, it is just a bit less faster than the TDR but it also has a bit more inertia which is very pleasant in the big manoevers The canopy and frames look first time beefy on pictures, but to be honnest once you get it in your hands the frames do not look so big when sitting close to a Trex 700 for example( theyy would even look more compact in some ways) and the canopy is just nice and looks really good. All things regarding mechanics inside are very well thought and well done, the head and tail are rock solid, and the transmission can handle really severe punishment in a very quiet way... Crown gear has a metal plate reinforcement preventing it to bend on efforts so gear mesh always stays good ( no teeth breaking). On brand new and freshly built Shape, the transmission and linkages will be smooth but a bit " hard" when building the heli and after the first flight everything is sitting perfectly : ) This is just a mechanics you want to keep for years, like the Avro and the Three Dee. The fact there is a T700 tail pitch slider is not really a problem as it works perfectly and is a cheap part to replace in case of crash in fact. It's simple, and reliable, and i guess it's bashed just because there is the reference still printed on it. A " customer " pitch slider from germany would be more expensive anyway, but a futur upgrade could be possible i think ? Best regards, Fabien |

HI,
with a 4035-560 and 10T pinion ( this is what i have), with governor and 1950 RPM, it pulls very well also : )))) THis heli is much mroe agile than it looks, in fact, i love the transmission and engine sound, it is much quieter than on other models, there is not the squeeeeeeek sound of the motor, it'slike a mini formula one in the sky... Damn i love this heli : )))) Next month i give it a try in 800 class... Best regards, Fabien |
