Hobbyco Torqmaster 180 is what I use... I have it setup with two 7.4v NiMH batteries in series that are mounted to the starter. They also have the ones for the Makita 18v cordless batteries. I would prefer the Makita now that I have a drill set that uses those batteries, but wouldnt buy the batteries just for the starter.

I was interested at first in that starter, but to be honest everyone I have talked to said it was an overpriced piece of junk. I personally have never tried it, but nobody at my LHS likes it.

I have a sullivan hi-torque starter.. Run it with an old 3s lipo.. Plenty of torque to turn the motor over, unless It's hydro locked.. in which case it's good that it doesn't have enough torque to turn over!

Torqmaster 180, KSJ battery pack, two cheap 7.2V NiMh batteries wired in series, and a sullivan starter wand (Could get away with a much cheaper starter wand).

I use a hobbico with an old 11.1v 2200mAh lipo on it. Charge it once every few months. Plenty of power to start my 55.

I received mine as a gift, and haven't had any problems with it at all.

I use the Sullivan Dynatron starter with a 6s battery and don't have any problems...easily starts my 90's

I used to have the Hanger 9 HD starter but it went out after about 10 uses...piece of junk.

forgot about that...Just need to make sure that you have one that has an adjustable clutch on it so you don't push past hydrolock.

G-force makes an adapter, forget who else makes them.

I often wonder the same thing. People at my field that have never even used one will come up to me and tell me what a bad purchase I made when I bought the Align starter. Expensive ? Absolutely ! Still, I find it to be a very convenient starter to use. I charge the battery once every few months and otherwise do not worry about it starting any engine I own.

For the Sullivan, I use a thunder power 5000mha 25c. On the Hanger 9, just car battery.

Have the align starter and it is a bit weak, almost burnt it up trying to start my heli one day before I learned about hydro lock, I couldn't get the damned thing to start, or even spin then I read the manual and discovered that motors can hydro lock, and remove the glow plug to remove the fuel trapped in the head. DOH oh well the align starter is a Pain in the arse had to re-wire the battery as it really sucks trying to get the deans disconnected from the battery.

Good solder joints are VERY strong. Just pull on the wires and the connector will come off in two seconds.

I was contemplating getting the align starter. Looks really nice and compact but was put off by the price, so I tried my little Rigid drill from Home Depot that I use at work and boy was I impressed. My Hobbico 90 starter on 4 cells had a really hard time turning over my 600 nitros os 50 hyper when it starterd to get a little hydro locked. I had to always take off the canopy, undo the 2 in 1 clip and pull out the glowplug, but with the Rigid drill set to its lightest torque settings made this a thing of the past. So what I did was purchase another Rigid drill just for the heli since the other one I have is used for work. It cost 99 bucks and comes with 2 lithium Ion batts, a light, 15 minute charger, and a nice carrying case. Also one of the best things about it is, if it ever ever fails, Home depot will warranty if for a lifetime. My first one had a battery go bad so they just returned it and gave my my money back. I went right back to the tools coral and pick up a new one the same day.
