Default Down Under Heli Smackdown 2011 - NZ

Well I just got back from the Down Under Heli Smackdown here in NZ and all I can say is WOW, seriously these guys are awesome, accept the Aussies, Jokes lol they were great as well , everyone was awesome and had an immense time, the event went off without a hitch, the flights were nothing but spectacular and the atmosphere was great.

Torana, met up with Mark, I didn't hit him but had a small chat and he's an awesome guy, Heck all the aussies were a blast. Shame I can't make crofts this year but I will certainly put aside some money for next year.

Curtis, all I can say about that guy is wow, his flying is the best I have ever seen, and to top it all off he is a really down to earth and decent bloke, loved to chat with our pilots and him and Ben helped us out immensely with our Raves here in NZ, talk about dedication to the Hobby.

Highlights of the event:
about 80 meters from the main flight line was a Maze field (corn) and the guys had some serious fun with that I can tell you, imagine a 10ft high corn field where you cant see above it at all, we had inverted loops with the bottom of the loop inside the corn LOL, fast passes through the corn where you couldn't see the heli but saw bits of corn flying everywhere LOL, Curtis did a forward roll into the corn field AT NIGHT with night gear, all we heard was this crushing sound and a huge cheer lol, got away without a scratch.

Nick and Curtis flying through a 50m gap between two trees about half a kilometer away from the field, amazing eyesight those two.

Frankenstein doing one of the best night flight routines I have ever seen

The Aussie guys pulling out all the stops, going low and hard, just how we like it

Nick scarring the sh*t out of our camera man and spotter when he did a side on wall stop and punch away about 1meter from his face. and Hurricanes that passed him at around 100km/h and about 1 meter in front of him.

Koden showing us all that we are too old for this Hobby and need to get out now before he turns 16.

I'm waiting on our camera guys to compile the video's and photo's and get the DVD's sent out but when they do I'll post links to them on youtube and links to the photo's

X5 Update:
I got about 8-9 flights on the beast during the event, we also had our shops model flying as well so we could compare settings and handling, we do have a massive power differential though, mine seems to have around 15% more grunt in terms of motor power than the shops, the only difference between the two models is: batteries, both new, mine is Volts, his is Turnigy Nano, ESC on mine is updated his is not, I'm running an external BEC he is not.

OK I am gonna keep saying this but this heli is INSANE, we did a few flights to show to a few people how stable it is, so we put one of the Gaui's in a hover about 12ft off the ground and went "hands off" off the sticks, we did not have to return our hands to the sticks for 35 seconds and we could have gone longer if there wasn't a strong wind that day, this is hands down THE most stable heli I have ever flown.

And again, its like the damn machine is telling me, DO SOMETHING NEW, stop flying me in figure of eight patterns you boring git and flip me, roll me, so I did. I rolled, I flipped and I did a few attempts and loops but they ended up being 9's lol. I did my first forward flight rolls and they were as straight as a damn arrow, damn I love this machine, If I wasn't going out with a beautiful Philipino, I would have married my X5 by now.

OK a few photo's, I suck at photo's as you all know from my build and I was there to fly so didn't take any of the main flights, but I did take a few for your gander, will post more as we get them back from the pro photo guys, there are some crackers I'll tell you that.

IT HAD TO BE DONE:

Signed blades make a heli fly better
I think Tim was the other Aussie that signed them Jack.
