I moved it to OT. Read this rule right here - http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=96

It looks like the thread is back on track, but it needs not turn into any issues between manufacturer/dealer/designer, etc. Thank you.

I keep a spare drill chuck in my tool box and it works extremely well to remove the second bolt from the spindle.

That is what Alan my flying buddy and also a contractor here does.

Now most helis I have had there is nothing in the center of the head touching the spindle that some marring of the spindle would effect. So I grab the spindle with the vice grips right in the middle and take the other screw out. If I marred the spindle in the middle I do sand it to get any burs off it just for grins but as I said the marring here in the center wont hurt anything.

+1. This is what I have always done. I usually slip a strip of rubber over it to keep from marring the middle of the shaft.

I think I will still buy a tool anyhow. Looks handy.

don't forget that if a bolt is in super tight due to loctite (especially red) to heat up the end of the shaft and that will help get that bolt out without having to put the shaft in a vise (like I had done one time heh) I almost broke a thorp driver it was in so tight lol

I've always used a 1 1/2 inch V-groove machine vise to hold the shaft while loosing the screw, has yet to ever fail holding any diameter feathering shaft.

Nice tool though, and I wish the best to all who sell them.

A good way to grip the spindle is to wrap a sheet a saran wrap around it and grip with some joint pliers or vice grips. It will not scratch or slip.

That being said ... I'm going to buy a grippy as soon as I can get one.

Wrap spindle in paper towel or rubber or towel and stick the entire length into the jaws of a table vice. Crank it down. Doesn't take much since the vice is distributing the grip along the entire length of the shaft. Remove bolt.

No cratches and very little force applied to the shaft at any 1 point.

I only have one of those small $19 vices from Lowes (Kobalt). Not sure how much these tools cost..but I am 100% sure I get more use from my vice outside of removing bolts from spindles.

A leather belt in the jaws of a Mole Grip works well too but most times I take spindle out it's damaged and destined for scrap

on the 8 and 10 combo tool why would they put the smaller one way on the outside if you need more leverage for the 10mm???

before my drill press broke I would drill a hole through the center of the spindle and poke an owl through the head button hole and through the hole in the spindle to secure it while I loosen the main grip bolts.

I normally just use my power drill to hold the spindle in place whilst I remember the screw. I just use it as a vice as it doesnt damage the spindle.
