Default Which Align Parts will fit the AXE400

I have an axe 400 which after breaking some of the head never again lined up correctly and would fly right. I am pretty sure I have heard someone before mention that this helicopter is pretty much a clone of one of the align trex heli's, not sute which one but I think I remember hearing the 450 or something. Anyway my question is this.... Instead of scraping the helicopter and selling it for mear peanuts will a trex head fit on to this helicopter and if so will it greatly increase how well it will fly? What other parts can I use on it to better improve performance and is it worth it?

I know the landing gear does! You can probably guess how I know. You have to drill new holes/elongate the existing ones in the arch shaped pieces to fit, but it looks great. The fact that the Align skids are removable makes attaching training gear a heck of a lot easier.

From what I've heard, the Axe400 is very similar to the old Align Trex450XL. I am also running an Align ESC on my Axe400, and Align 325 blades.

Hi Desert Fox,

What brand of main blade are you using in your Axe400's? They fit really nice in your blade holders. I think I can make out in the picture it says Pro 3D.

WiggleStix,
I currently fly 3D Pro. They are cheap, they come balance well. They track and fly well for my flying style.
http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-pro-3251.html

Orders over $25.00 ship for free, or $4.99 if you select replacement parts on small items.
the pictured blades is not the current paint scheme. They come as seen in my photos. Give them a try, great price for everyday blades and a stepup from the original woodies.

Angry Axe 400

My question is I have a axe 400 and my problem is that the tail control pitch arm and pitch slider have a lot of play in them. I'm tired of replacing those parts. I have looked on the Internet and can't find a aluminum tail for it. Im thinking of buying the eflite blade 450 and just starting all over again. Any help will be apprciated. Thank you

Default AXE 400

Torresma427,
I have installed the EXI 450 Pro Belt Driven setup on my 400. There is a adjustment to the anti-rotation hole on the tail boom.
http://www.xheli.com/exi-18121.html
http://www.xheli.com/exi-20122.html
http://www.xheli.com/exi-20123.html
The three parts make up the tail assy. You can use the last to parts on your current Tail Rotor Shaft Assembly.

I recommend you upgrade your tail rotor blades to Outrage, Align or KBDD. The added surface area will give you better performance.
http://helidirect.com/advanced_searc...1&inc_subcat=1
I have Outrage installed on all but one of my Birds ( I got a set of tal blades and FB paddles, just haven't installed yet).

I recommend you upgrade your tail rotor control linkage to Align. I had the Heli-Max fail on me a couple of times while trouble shooting a vibe problem. Lucky for me I was hovering low and did not damage my bird.
http://helidirect.com/align-tail-lin...0se-p-4862.hdx

I also recommend you go from the 190mm flybar to 220mm flybar.
http://helidirect.com/align-flybar-r...ev2-p-1606.hdx
http://helidirect.com/align-stainles...450-p-4159.hdx
I have 220mm flybars on all my Heli-Max AXE 400 3D's

I got Align Struts/Skids on all my birds, some with 450's some with 500
http://helidirect.com/align-landing-...50se-p-769.hdx
http://helidirect.com/align-landing-...50xl-p-188.hdx
http://helidirect.com/align-landing-...500-p-5576.hdx
you will have to elongate the mounting holes on the struts to match the AXE 400 frame.

If you are having good luck with your original gyro, great. If you find it lacking try the Detrum GY48V. A best buy at $13.00. It is a clone design of the Futaba GY401. Use the Futaba GY401 manual for setting up the gyro. The instructions a more clear in the operation of the gyro.
http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-dy-1017.html
I also have a Align GP780 on one of my birds. Check the sale section here and Run Ryder as flyers go Flybarless they are selling off their single axis gyros

Blades, I fly with these
http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-pro-3251.html
They are cheap, they are balanced well out of the package. Good carbon blades at almost half the price of the original woodies.
There are hundred other items that can be used on your 400, it up to you.

I got it in the air. I changed the blades, align head, align tail blades and I tried to fit a trex 450 canopy but it is a little tight. I only hovered it but it feels pretty damn good. The only issue I see right now is the tail will bob up and down when I come to a braking stop or if I am descending and then put a brake on it with some trottle. It will bob for a few seconds and then go away.

Stevin,
Are you saying that when you descend and stop you are getting a vertical bounce in the tail? Can you post a video of your issue. With the bobing is it pitching forward and aft or is the whole helicopter bobing horzionally?

dont have any video but yes it is bobbing vertically, its only for a few seconds but it doesnt look right, no it doesnt pitch the heli nose down, It seams to only be the tail. I checked to see if maybe it needed to be tightened or something but all feels fine. Everything I have read relates this issue to head speed but I uped my throttle curve to no avail..

The issue I mentioned in another thread about the thottle going at 0 stick was caused my the speed controller. I have swapped out with an eflite speed controller and i have no more problems with that.

Stevin,
Strange, I don't have a clue, Sorry. The thing is the tail works to control yaw movement. This bounce would appear to be the whole helicopter. If it was just the tail only bouuncing, I would think the helicopter would pitch forward or aft. I hope you find a solution soon.

How about posting some pictures of you AXE 400?

I purchased a couple of canopies from www.hobbypartz.com/canopy450.html. I had to locate my grommet holes. I used my original canopy as a guide and it came out well.

I have read everywhere that the tail bouncing is usually due to low head speed, although I dont think thats the issue here because I adjusted the throttle curve even higher. I wonder if it has anything to do with the very light plastic flexable frame.
I also had to relocate the holes and make new ones for the smaller bottom rods to fit through. With the battery in the canopy doesnt go all the way back so I only have the two front pins holding it in place while I fly. I would also like to get matching tail fin and stabalizer in orange to match the canopy and flybar paddles.

Do you have all stock servos on your swash? Heres a picture. sorry about the quality it is from my phone

Here are photos of 3 of my 5 Heli-Max AXE 400 3D.

On my #1 Bird I have Align 450 PRO head, Futaba S3154 digitals servos on cyclics, Align D420 servo on the tail, Align GP780 Gyro, Align 500 struts and skids, Canomod Canopy, Carbon fiber tail boom, Align 450 PRO boom struts, EXI 450 PRO metal tail rotor grip with matching tail control set, Align tail rotor pitch control linkage, PRO 3D main blades, Align 220mm Stainless Steel Flybar, Outrage flybar paddels and tail rotor blades, Fusuno neon tail fins. The other two birds canopies are from Hobby Partz, They are fiberglass and cheaper than the originals Heli-Max plastic. I had to supply the grommets and locate and drill the holes. used the original canopy as a template.

do you feel that the updated servoes make a big difference with cyclic control? Although the stock servoes feel agile and there is no slop with the align head, she feels stiff if that makes sense, Wondering if digital upgraded servoes would change that.

Stevin,
The digital are suppose to give you better response. Check Futaba's website they explain the difference there www.futaba-rc.com/servos/digitalservos.pdf. I picked 4 up for $50.00 lightly used. They go for $34.99 each at Tower Hobbies
.
I have never had a problem with the Futaba S3114 servos. I have never stripped a gea, but again I am doing basic flying right now. If or when I get into 3D, I think the servo arms will be upgraded to metal. The original arms are a little to flexible to my liking. Also steel linkage balls and rods.

Default Which Align Parts will fit the AXE400

I was having issues with newly installed secondary tail belt drive gears I had one new that I could not even intall in the frame, the bearing were spaced wrong. Tower Hobbies exchanged that one. I had one fail within about 5 flights on it. Luckly the bird was low to the ground and I was able to land without damage. I contacted Hobby Services and let them know how unhappy I was with the quality of the secondary tail belt drive gears that I was receiving. Told them that could check my order history, and at almost ten dollars a pop the unit should be more reliable, and failure of the seconday tail drive should not be happening at the rate I was seeing. They sent me a replacement unit. I had another unit that was binding after being installed. I removed the tail boom and sent the remaining helicopter to them (Hobby Services) so they could see what I was dealing with, I also sent end two failed secondary tail belt drive gears. They sent the helicopter back with a good (non binding) secondary tail belt drive gear assembly along with two replacement assemblies.
The bottom line, if you are having problems with the quality of the Heli-Max parts, let them know about it, call them, send them the bad part. Tower Hobbies and Hobby Services have responded to my complaints. If others are having problems please let them know! The more voices will get more attention to the issues!

Thank you for your response. I was on eBay and stumbled across a cnc aluminum pulley for a trex 450 xl. My understanding is that the axe 400 is a copy of it. The part # is mhetx4118fp. Maybe someone has tried it and I did not see the post. I'm thinking of ordering one and see what if it fits. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your time.
