Default 90 degree vs 120 CCPM swash?

Hi there, first timer heli NOOB here with a swashplate question. I purchased a used Blade 400 with the 6DXi transmitter as a first helicopter awhile back, mostly learned how to fix it, but finally got to where I can hover tail in mostly ok. Then I came across a posting somewhere that indicated the 400 should have 120 degree CCPM, not the 90 degree it was set up for when I bought it. I reprogrammed it for the 120, leveled the swashplate and went out to play. Sure enough, it seems easier to get a stable hover set up that way. Now I have to wonder.....why did the original owner set it up as a 90 degree? Is there an advantage to that set up that I'm missing?

Nope, it was incorrectly set up. The 90 degree would have given you some wierd elevator axis control

so was it flying ? cause i agree that it cant fly on 90 degree it would be out of whack .ya it does need to be 120 set up and for you to know it means 120 degrees between points of balls on the swash.

I didn't know any better, so that's how I learned how to fly. I ain't saying it was pretty though. I did get really good at fixing it. It was a big deal when I got 2 or 3 minute hovers and made it through a couple of batteries without a crash. It also made a huge difference when I learned to bump the gyro up to 75% from the 50% he had it set at. If I'm reading the manual correctly the gyro is effectively disabled at 50%. Now that I've got the swash and gyro sorted out a bit, I feel like I might actually learn to fly before I go broke buying parts.

It may be that the previous owner had something like a Flymentor fitted.

Well you made us all smile, if you managed to fly that then with a good heli your going to learn to be a fantastic pilot. Good luck for the future, keep at it, theres a lot to learn but worth it in the end.

Thanks! Don't know about the fantastic pilot, but I might get to be a great mechanic. I did notice during last night's session that the helicopter wasn't climbing unexpectedly or shooting off in an unintended direction like it used to. Apparently what I assumed was crappy thumbs on my part was just an improperly set up head. Next stop, figure 8's! Yee Haw!

The best part is now I know where to come when I'm needing some advice.
