Default 14 tooth pinion problems

Hi all,

Anyone else had a problem with the 14 tooth pinion? I think I heard that there was a new version coming.

I had the maiden flight on my mini P stretch, first flight was great, flew perfectly off the bench. Running 4s with head speeds 2450, 1800, 3000. I had the belt at the front loose as recommended and wanted to make sure the belt wouldn't slip so gave it a big pitch pump at 10-15 meters high and thought I heard the motor spool down. I autoed down with a little bounce, only damage looks to be one ear of the canopy cracked so the o-ring came out.

Checking the heli over I found the oneway in the pinion is just spinning, I don't know if the rollers have come apart or the oneway is spinning in the pinion, I will pull it apart and check.

//Dennis.

Hmmm, pinion is split completely. I will have to go to the 16 tooth for the weekend and turn down the ESC, not ideal but I guess it will work. Anyone know what the max headspeed for the SAB350 blades and the max recommended for the mini P?

... yes - my 14t-pionion also broke, but it beared up against the forces of 4s-lipos and 2560kv-scorpion some 300 flights, otherwere only some pitchpumps i heard ....

the 14t pinion seems to be too weak, and i guess, it does not stand vibs of the motor adapter...

i heard only rumors about a new version in the market... some postings ago i also asked for the new version - but did not get an answer...

now i changed to the stretch-version and try the old-version-14t-pinion again with some bad feelings, but it worked well now for 35 flights...

My 14 tooth split yesterday. Just changed to 6S and decided to test it at 2900 RPM. Planned to change to a 15t on the next flight, but had no choice. A couple minutes into the flight it sounded like the motor quit. Auto'd it down and this is what I found.

I didn't loose a whole tooth like that, it just had a split down the middle. Looks like I was a little unlucky, only 2800 rpm on the second flight. I will order a 15 tooth I guess and see what I can find out about a redesigned 14 tooth.

It didn't lose a tooth, it just split. That's how far it spread when I got it out of the heli. The walls are just too thin. I'm going to stay with the 15t which was my plan anyway.

Mine did exactly the same thing as yours, about a minute or two into the first flight it spooled down. Turned out to be the sleeve of the pinion was just slipping on the auto bearing. They must glue it on and the glue let go. I can't see any evidence of a split in mine.

So I just put the 16T on and dialed down the TC for now. That has been fine for 20 flights now. I am sure I read that the ones in stock at ReadyHeli now are the new ones - I read that a few weeks ago, so I'm pretty sure the major vendors will have them.

I guess it will be a good idea to glue the two bearing (Up and Down)
That should help to consolidate the pignon..

Here's a picture of mine after 12 flights. I noticed some strange sound, so I managed to land. The lower bearing slid out of it and the pinion grinded a beautiful ridge around the Y-support.

I am sure if you glue the bearing in it you will get no more problem..
I hope

I will do it on mine..

I'm not much confident it will help. My belt runs quite loose on the motor side, so the stress seems to be coming from either high inertia that pulls it apart or motor shaft vibes. Glue or threadlock won't be of too much help in multiple thousand RPM.

My best bet would be putting a rubber band around the pinion

I don't think putting loctite on the bearings will help much, my pinion split from top to bottom on the first true pitch pump I did with the heli. The alloy is just too thin after teeth are cut.

I still haven't seen any confirmation no the new version of the pinion anywhere, I will probably get a 15 tooth in the mean time as with the 16 tooth I am running 60% for normal, 70% IU1 and that is with the governor store mode set with a storage charged pack.

Hello,

Several of us got the same issue with the 14T pinion in France. It seems that there is a new strongest version but same issue.

Ya it seems that the 6s 1300 kv motor with a 15 tooth pinion will yield MUCH better results for those wishing to run a realistic heed speed on 350 blades without reaching into the realm of super 3d and pilots that can actually do it. Also check out the mks ds92 for cyclic. Save some bucks compared to the 95's!!

Was it the new version? Has anyone seen the new version and what it looks like?

I sent a PM to Corrado. He says the new 14T pinion is aluminium, not steel anymore. You should be able to recognize it.
Anyways, I'm out of 14T business. 2010kV / 15T / 350mm blades is a great combo for both relaxed and harder flying styles.
