So Hanson suggests using Pennzoil Marine oil at 32:1 ratio during break in.
What do we use for normal heli operation after the break in period though and at which ratio? Dimitris |

I am sure you can run your Hanson on that oil and mix for its entire operating life.

I run 4% penzoil (25:1) in my Hanson, and did from day one. Tried 2% after running 10 L of fuel throught it, gave my motor the hickups. Would probably have ran fine if I had put some effort into it, but cba.. Went back to 4% and everything is great again

Hej!
I can obtain these two Pennzoil fullsynthetic marine oils locally. The label and bottle shape looks different though... Which one should I get? Dimitris |

Out of the two oils it had to be the most expensive, right? LoL
Dimitris I have to say that I really hate this creative wording by the way. When they try to hide the real nature of a product and make it sound as something else, usually superior. Fullsynthetic, synthetic blend, fullsynthetic blend, etc... Last edited by Dimitris76; 02-03-2012 at 06:42 AM.. |

Coming from dirtbike tuning experience, this is what I have found. If the oil mixture ratio is changed, the needles on the carb have to be adjusted as well. In this situation, changing from 25:1 to 50:1, there is now a 2% by volume increase in fuel being delivered to the engine through the needles. Remember that the carb is delivering both fuel and oil through these needles. Change the mixture and the needles have to change. In the situation quoted, the engine would have went from running good to running rich. That's why the effort was needed. The opposite is possible. If someone changes from 50:1 to 25:1 and notices that they have a lot of peak power, they may assume that the motor likes more oil. In actual fact, they are changing the effective jetting and running the motor leaner. The motor could actually be damaged in this situation. Sure it has tons of oil, but it is running hot because of the lean condition. Just my 2 cents. Please keep this in mind when tuning two stroke engines. Karl

I used the 100% synthetic marine from Penzoil at 32 to 1 for my 29cc PUH Hanson from the beginning as Hanson recommended . Piston is Clean and it runs beautifully . The power is great and she runs SMOOTH,, I have kept it at 32 to 1 and am very happy with the 29cc in my Spectra. What a great machine and motor., I think it is best to do what the builder recommends.no matter what you think. Give it a shot,,and you may be proved wrong.

What I don't understand is how changing the oil can affect vibrations, unless the quality/viscosity of the "vibrating" oil was so low that it was causing things to stick.
