Align DS650, Savox 1290MG, Futaba S9254 or BLS251.

i had some flights with DS520, for hovering ok...
MKS DS8910 was almost ok, but full-size is way better. get a full size! it fits without modification.

If you want a one time purchase.....full size is the only choice. The cheapest is definately the savox, but personally id go with the mks ds760p.

that servo is WAY slow. wouldnt work at all. go ahead an spend the money on the best you can get. a very fast brushless tail servo will last you forever.

You can always buy the s9257 gears, put them into the s9650 and you will end up with a tail servo.

I suggest that you forget the mini size tail servo. The savox 1290 is quite remarkable on my 550 I still think that the savox brand is better than the rebaged align versions. Short cuts in manufacturing obviously needed for align to purchase and sell these servos as name brand but who knows , I could be barking up a tree but my experience leads me to think that the savox is better than align. I wont buy anything with the align stamp on it anymore anyway's

The 9257 gears will turn the 9650 into a 9257. It should be not run at 6v, though.

Why? The 9650 can be run at 6v and your using the same electronics.

i believe the servo shouldn't be overspeeded. At 6v, it will move much faster and with the new gearing it could overheat. That's why the 9257 is rated for less voltage.

I'm runnig a 9257 and it works OK but is marginal at best. You better have a perfectly smooth and free tail or it will stall. I couldn't even use the thrusted tail with it!
I'm going to a 9253 to see how that works.

Not buyin that. Changing gears just changes the output shaft speed. it does not overspeed the motor or anything. But, it would add extra load to the motor. Bu no different than adding more load to the 9650. More load could burn the servo out tho I guess. but it isnt overspeeding

really? I find the 9650 holds for me, it is slow, as I have delay about 35 on the GY401. But I've never had a blowout with it. Heck, I once flew a 450 with a HS 605 car servo!!! Slow and heavy yes, but I could fly none the less.

The 9650 has more torque than the 9257 because of the gearing. The 9257 is more than fast enough it just doesn't have enough torque. Especially if you are running the KBDD tail blades.

bandit, the 9257 is OK for sport flying, but once you put a load on the tail your heli is going to be pointing the wrong way. go ahead and get a full size. twice the torque and faster than the 9257.

Thumbs up

These work great!!!
The speed/torque is the same but the 251 is a little heavier due to the gears/casing.
