Default Castle Cap Pack

http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...-cap-pack.html
"CC CapPack is highly recommended for all 500 class and larger heli applications where Y harnesses and long wires can bleed voltage and hard collective pulls can strain even the most powerful batteries."

Say NO to ripple.

Pretty good deal for $12. Might be just kind of like electronic 'bling' for most, though.

So, after multiple recalls, and repairs, they finally offer this?... Is this the fix all?...

Since the last recall and introductionf of the ICE2 versions, I've not read many failure reports at all. Seems like they finally got things sorted out

They are offering this due to an overwhelming amount of requests. I had called them waaay back in July because I had extended the leads to my ESC beyond that which was recommended, and they had stated that people call all the time asking about which caps to get... they said they would be releasing a capacitor bank... so here it is.

Good idea... most people don’t even realize their leads are too long. I took a few hours and went to many of the sub forums to look at pictures of peoples setups and many had battery leads that were too long.

I'm gonna go order one right now.

So, if I leave the ESC battery leads the factory length and install a jumper between two EC5's, I should not need this, assuming that I dont need an extension lead?

Yeh you should be fine Bryan..... I believe the 'need' arises when you have more than 12" of wire (total) between the ESC and Battery pole.

I saw Castles design but that sort of worried me so I tried something a little different..

Took my home brewed version and installed it on one of my AP rigs...

It does smooth out the ripple nicely..

Very nice!

Any specs on the caps? And is that a ceramic tray with the caps potted in wax or epoxy?

1800uF 50V caps, hot glued to a length of vector board wired with 12 gauge copper
The tray case is stock from work and hard potted with 2 part hard pot material.

At least this way it can be secured to the top of the ESC and not floating on the leads

I just wired two of these ($1.40 each) to each of my 80HVs, and get ripples between 1.5 and 2.0V (on 12s systems).

CC recommended one cap of similar rating to those on the ESC for each 4" of wire longer than 12".

I remember a while back Pat said on the RCGroups thread well before they started the multi-recall stuff and were still blaming everything on users not doing installs right, that they were planning on doing a add-on cap thing.

Mostly got the feeling as some were seeing voltage ripple drops from the add-on cap kits YGE already offer that they installed and found that on, that they took the idea that people would be interested in doing that.

I even got this from Pat personally in a post I made about it on there and was told by him that its currently in the final testing phase an should be out in a few weeks and so I thought I'd wait for that as I was still planning on using the CC ESC that came with my 700 kit.

Then weeks turned to months and I even got to a point where I PM'ed him as at the time I was still on the positive side of Castle and wasn't looking to make bad publicity for them by asking about it on the board and never got a reply and so I was like, well guess that's not going happen and about two weeks later, the recall for the ICE3's came out and in the stuff they talked about with that, they said that they looked at a add on pack but felt it really wasn't going to help with the problem all that much and as well, that it was going to be too impractical for users to install.

Then the ICE3's toasted right off the bat and now we have the ICE2's (or is it ICE4 really?) and while there haven't been many, there has been a few of those burning up, but as well, how many are out there too?

To me I almost wonder that Castle doesn't mind not getting too many of these things back and/or well back into the off season as then there less to have a possible problem

Now after all that, now they come out with the add-on pack?

As well now there have been reports of their LV ESC's toasting to which they right off the bat in their forums, they went right back into their "user installed or did something wrong" rhetoric again.

If anyone knows me, I know what they will have to say to this, but all in all, I just wish Castle could do us and the hobby a favor and stop blaming everyone else, or making band-aids to the things they do wrong and or worst of all, stop all the games they are playing and inflicting upon us and just simply build controllers that work so we don't have to keep dealing with all this kind of stuff.

It’s not a band aide.... look man, it’s a basic electrical principal. More wire = more resistance.... This is intended as an ad-on for people that need it... like a heli with an odd ESC location, or a large plank with extended wires.

Just go and brows all the pictures yourself man, you will see that MANY people have their wires much too long.

Putting extra caps onto their ESC's would just add unnecessary weight for people who don’t need them.

I hate Castle, but these things have a valid application, no point bagging them yet.
