Default Best helicopter for use with a GoPro?

I want to buy my boyfriend a helicopter to use with his GoPro camera. He'd be using it outdoors in very cold conditions, and I'd like to spend under $400. Suggestions?

Has your boyfriend ever flown an R/C Helicopter before? If not, you might want to consider other options.

+1...
You make no mention if he has any experience with an RC helicopter
If he has never flown prior, this would be a costly mistake.

Lucky man to have someone like you. You have definitely come to the right place if it is answers you seek. New to RC Heli's and under 400.00 perhaps the Parrot. Just a little forewarning if he gets the heli bug you'd be the one responsible.

with little to no flight time a quad like the Parrot would be best

you wont get much smoother than a quad copter. and the prices are reasonable expecially when compared to a full up ready to go heli rig (which will be well over $1000 for anything even remotely worth using for video) Learning curve on a quad is very low too, they nearly fly themselves. Many new fliers are flying the Parrot Drones having no prior flying experience and using an iphone or android phone to fly them

Donnot go for a heli to use it as camera ship. Take a quadcopter he will be much more happy using the GoPro on that.

Tricopters or quadcopters are the best way to go on this. I'm currently in the middle of building a tricopter for video and FPV purposes. They are very economical if you build them yourself, otherwise they can get pricey: http://rcexplorer.se/files/74bf98b2d...064be-314.html

They fly like fixed pitch helis and are stabilized with 3-axis gyros. It helps if you already know how to fly helis, but it's not as bad as trying to learn how to fly a collective pitch helicopter.

Here's a video show flying characteristics of a tricopter.

If he has no experience with RCs or helicopters, be warned, there's A LOT to learn. Hope this helps and good luck!
