Jive Question: Mode 1 vs. Mode 4

Quick question. Is mode 4 governor mode? In the instructions, it states that Mode 4 "operates with active RPM control. This means, that the motor RPM will be kept constant."

I don't want to use governor mode so I think Mode 1 which is "Auto-Programming Mode" is what I'm looking for as "In APM the ESC equalizes itself after every battery connection to the actual throttle control."

Take a look at MR.Mels setup Video.Mode 1 is a reset of jive.--Mode 4 is a gov. mode.--performance will stay the same--headspeed may drop---mode 11 headspeed remains constant--performance may vary--it is explained very well in video--may need another mode depending on setup used--motor-- Walt

Thanks. I've been using this video along with the Jive 120 instructions while setting up the Jive. I'm using Mode 4 now.

Huh?

In Mode 4 it locks a HS at spoolup and tries to keep it all flight.

In Mode 11 it locks the HS in on the FIRST spoolup after you program that mode.

Both will maintain constant RPM, but mode 4 may vary with different packs etc.

If you want to turn off "active RPM control", you'll need the programming card. Although why anyone would spend the money on a Jive just to use it in fixed endpoint mode is beyond me.

Sorry, the Kontronics is new to me so I'm learning. For Mode 4, if my "normal" throttle curve is 0,40, 60, 80, 100, will the Jive follow that curve?

Found my answer on the sticky which is pretty much how I set up my normal and Idle Up (linear at 70% and 100%):

Setting Up Governor RPM
The manual tells you nothing about how to set up Governor RPM, but it is easy. Set up straight horizontal lines for your Idle Up 1 and Idle Up 2 curves (example: Idle Up 1 to: 60% / 60% / 60% and Idle Up 2 to: 80% / 80% / 80%). Move these curves (flat lines) up and down at the field to set the desired RPM levels. Switching between flight modes will change your head speed to these preset governed speeds. Do not use V curves (i.e. 100% / 80% / 100%). This will mess the governor up.

If you set your Normal Throttle Curve to be any ascending line (example: 0% / 60% / 100%), your head speed will not be governed in Normal mode. You can also set your Normal Throttle Curve to something like: 0% / 60% / 60% if you want the lower half of your Throttle Curve to act ungoverned, and everything above mid-stick to be governed to whatever rpm level the flat part of the curve produces.
