Default New first time FBL install Sk 720

Im too tired and not confident enough to test hover my Logo 500 3D right now but I think it is ready. I would like to post what I have done and let you guys see if there are potential problems.

I am using a Futaba 7CH Tx with a R6203 S Bus Rx attached to the Sk 720 via a Sk S Bus adapter.

I am using a Power Bus powered by a Western Robotics BEC which is soldered to the battery connecter wires of a Kontronics Jazz 80. All of the JR 8717 swash servos and the Futaba BLS 251 tail servo get 6 volts thru the jumpered bus.

I am unsure how to properly control cyclic and tail gain so for now I locked them in the default settings for Sport Flyer.

I assume that since the Gyro settings or sense(gain on Spek) uses ch 5 on my transmitter and on normal tail servos I have 3 gains tied to my flight mode switch I can use that but not sure.

So, I locked the cyclic and tail gains and set both banks up exactly the same

I hope to enable Self Leveling in bank 2 after making sure it will fly in both banks.

I didnt do anything in the governor software as I am going to use the Kontronic governor.

Does this seem like a fairly safe way to go about testing this setup?

I would like to know how to control the gain settings with the transmitter but first I should see if the thing will fly.

Jimmy

If you lock you cyclic and tail gains you will not be able to adjust them from your TX. For me I have my cyclic on my gear switch so if I adjust the endpoints for that switch that will adjust my cyclic gain.

Are you not running a stepdown for you bls251? Just want to make sure you know that it is a 4.8 volt servo.

Rmalt,
thanks for the reply

I know I can't adjust gains from the Rx with them locked. Since I don't have a gear channel on my Futaba 7 CH and was unsure how to set up cyclic gain on it I locked it
As I never use endpoints to adjust gyro gain I locked it in the Sk setup. For gyro gain on my Tx it isn't like JR or Spektrum where 0 = 50%. It isn't -100----0----+100 it has a direct relationship from 0 to 100%. If you want 40% gain you set it to 40%
I didn't know to have a tail 1 and tail 2 on my Tx so I just locked them for now
I have a DX 7 for b n f stuff but all my larger heli's are on Futaba. I should get an 8 fg but I pinch the sticks and the shape just doesn't feel right

Good catch on the tail servo step down. I do have an inline one installed. I didn't know if it was ok to use them with the Sk 720 and had asked in an earlier post here

I think that I can set one tail gain anyway using ch 5 which is what I use for the gyro sense on standard tail gyros. I have a spare ch on the Rx that is the default governor channel that I should be able to use for cyclic gain... I just haven't figured out how to do it yet

I don't know futaba but when your in the 720 and you have the two tail and cyclic banks, can you flip a switch and see the different banks get selected?

You have switch A, B and C so you should just be able to program two of them for the correct channel to switch your banks.

Yes, I programmed switch A to toggle back and forth, bank switching I think, between Cyclic 1,Tail 1 and Cyclic2,Tail2.

I can do something with switch B but I dont have a switch C.. I think the ch 6 "crash knob".takes the place of a C switch. I keep that thing INH.

I would like to be able to adjust the gains from the Tx but II just havent figured out exactly how to go about it yet.

I thought that locking the gains would get me in the air quicker but now I see the weather isnt going to cooperate this morning so I have plenty of time to try and figure out how to do it, even if I dont activate it until after a test flight or two..

If the first couple of hops go OK,
Ill tidy the wires up and

I am not going to activate self leveling until I verify that it will fly .lol

I want self leveling and that is the main reason I bought this FBL unit. I lose orientation occasionaly for no aparent reason. I want a bailout switch.

In the setup do you see the blue line above the cyclic 1, cyclic 2, tail 1 and tail 2 move when you move the switch on you TX? On the live data "inputs from receiver" you will see the cyclic gain and tail gain. All you need to do is move the endpoints of the channel that you have programmed for that switch and you will see the % increase or decrease.

=] James hi, it would be good to give your settings the once over, post them up please with a pic of the mounted SK.

there are plenty of futaba users in here to help with bank switching although you are fine with having the gains locked.

Futaba gave the all clear and rated the 251 @ 6v, this is what I use.....

Thanks for posting this I didn't know! I just bought a perfect regulator for my new 251. OOPS

Thanks georgi,

I am stuck. I turned the Sk Gov to odd in the Throttle and gov setup Wizard.

I want to use the gov on my Kontronics controller.
My ESC will not arm. Im getting no tones at all from it. I cant reprogram it either.

In the Wizard it tells you to plug the ESC into the proper channel, plug the Sk programming cable back into the gyro and in 10 seconds values will be displayed in the inputs from receiver area. The throttle value is stuck on -25 and when i put it in throttle hold it goes to 125 no numbers in between regardless of stick position Can this be correct?

Should I turn the Gov OFF in the Wizaed or set it to ELECTRIC?

=] James, yes disable the SK gov you cant have 2! the throttle value should show 100% in the live data. keep going!

=] it was such a concern for a time period, mine was at 4.5v until they revised it...

helped to sell regulators tho'!

Set the throttle endpoints in your TX to 100%, set a linear throttle curve (i.e. 0-25-50-75-100) in your TX, then do a Mode 1 reset of your Kontronik ESC. The Jive "learns" the endpoints during the Mode 1 reset, so if your endpoints aren't 100% and the throttle curve isn't linear, the ESC will think something else is "zero" and won't arm. MrMel has an excellent video covering all of this.

Edit:
What I said above pertains to a Jive ESC. I assume a Jazz is similar, but I haven't actually programmed one of those.

Im ready to try it out if the wind will lay down a bit tomorrow.
About my ESC initializing;
I reset my model and started as new in the beginning so I didnt realize that I needed to go back in and reverse the throttle channel when setting it up..I was about to cut the ESC in half...now all is good..I hope All other channel reversing was done in the SK software I hope

Wish me luck

Now, I will have to try and learn how to log vibrations

Finally got to test hove the heli this evening. The wind wasnt bad.
Had a successful hop in the driveway.

Where do I learn how to luse the logging feature? Im sure Ive overlloked the info. I see where to turn logging on but no info about retriving logs

Here is a boring little video clip from my phone

If you have the playback logging on you can go to the file menu of the setup and select "replay flight logs". From there you can find you flightlogs that would be stored on your sd card of the 720. For me its the "E" drive. That will show you a basic replay of the flight with your vibe index. You can also open that same file by using the data viewer program. If you have the vibration logging on you would open the file from the data viewer and it will give you a very detailed graph of your vibrations but there is no playback info.

Thanks for all the help from you guys on this forum.

The next one will be easy.

I just need to get a good grasp of the BANK setup. I think I have it setup correctly. One switch handles cycling gain settings.(ch 5 on swA) and sw B on ch 7 for tail gains only set like this I have to remember both up = cyc 1 and tail 1, both downcyc 2 tail 2. I think I will put self level on cyclic 2
