Default Hello from Eugene Oregon

I am brand new to helicopter flying. In the past I have done some RC planes and am getting back into that as well. I am anxious to learn to fly heli's since we live on 1.3 acres and have room to fly.
I started with a Eflite CX3 and seemed to have all kinds of trim problems along with buying parts every time I flew. I just sold the CX3 and have picked up a SR120. I am told this might be a better machine to learn on. Other hobbies are woodworking, long distance hiking and I also do a bit of sailing.
Any advice on how to tune, maintain and in general learn to keep these machines in the air and away from helicopter eating trees, walls and wives would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks All

Welcome bebling, you might want to look into getting a sim, I have Realflight 6 and I like it, others like Phoenix, both are good. I was out in Eugene a few years ago, a nice place as I remember it.

Welcome Bebling....Like rstekeur said..get a sim. It will save you tons. If you are ever in the Coos Bay area give a call, we have a small active group here. Also check with Eugene hobby for your local flying group contact.

Welcome. Have you flown the sr120 yet ? I agree about the Simulator as well. Its a great tool. I myself have the Phoenix one . It is just part of the process. Actual air time is the best training but often costly. I purchased the cx3 from bebling and talked on the phone with him for awhile. He is a great guy an asset to helifreak.

Default Thanks for the warm welcome!

No I have yet to receive the SR 120 yet, with luck it should be here in the next day or two. This weekend I plan to attend a swap meet in McMinnville where I will be on the lookout for a simulator program. Is there a group here that is focused on the peculiarities of the SR120? Also is it important to have a more sophisticated radio than the basic unit that comes with the heli? I look forward to finally conquering the helicopter and enjoying a great hobby!

Keep your eyes peeled on HF for the Phoenix sim as they usually sell for 90 to 100 bucks shipped. The phoenix version is updated for free so no matter which version you get it can be updated to the latest version at no charge.
