Which bec!?

Hi guys, I just have ordered my new Trex 500 EFL Pro and I would like to ask about the align bec. Is it good? And how about its governor function? I am asking this because I have a Trex 500 ESP and I bought for her a Phoenix Ice bec that is great! Should I do the same for this kit? Thank you in advance for any opinion!

The BEC in the Align ESC is better than the CC BEC.

The Gov in the Align ESC is worse than useless

HOWEVER, the Align ESC works perfectly with the vbar Gov

If you are concerned about having a good bec get a CC BEC Pro and be done with it

Guys, I think that I was not clear, sorry! My doubt is if I can change the original Align esc to the CC phoenix ice esc! I saw in a YouTube video that the 3gx flybarless unit has a gov mode, or I am wrong. I really like to fly in gov mode! Is there any problem to use a CC with the 3gx unit?

lol, that clears that up.

The 3GX governor is designed to be used with nitro motors not electric.

As for the CC speedy I assume you are talking about the ICE 80?. I think it has its own governor built in but I have no experience with governors so can't help you.

That being said apart from guys doing smack down 3d most pilots using electric set-ups just run flat throttle curves (N=0,40,80,80,80 St1=90,90,90,90,90 St2=100,100,100,100,100)

These work well for me.

I'm putting a ICE100 on mine - Descent governer, data logging, and 5 amp BEC.

BTW - I had 189 flight on my 500ESP with the stock Align ESC using it's BEC. It did not have a governer but was a solid controller.

You dont really need it but if you have the cash it's a nice option IMO.

I use a Jive 80LV and its built-in BEC on my 500 Pro. This ESC just barely fits under the battery tray. I am very happy with its performance.

Good point the Ice75 or 100 will need to go on the side of the heli. I think the Ice-lite will fit under the battery tray.

I selected the Ice100 and will be mounting it on the side of the frame under the main gear. It will stay very cool and aid in fixing the forward CG.

The Jive 80LV and CC 100 seem way over-kill to me when the stock kit is supplied with a 70A esc. If I was going Kontronik I would go for the Koby 70.

For those who use CC ice with a trex 500efl pro what head speed you fly? I am asking this because the align kit comes with a 12T helical pinion and from my experience to run at 2600 or above you will need a 14T pinion for the CC software to accept this hs and I can't find where to buy it!

You need to look at the gear ratio not just the pinion size. Plug some figures into the MrMel headspeed calculator and you will see. I have set mine to 2700 as that keeps the stock ESC running cool.

Ungoverned it will easily go over 3000.

I run mine @ 2800 RPM governed with the Jive. Can't go much higher without a larger pinion.

Actually, I wouldn't want to go any higher. The performance is great and I'm only getting around 4:30-4:40 fight times with a 2700 mah battery (which is the largest I can use).

Regarding the Jive being overkill - perhaps, but it has a much better BEC than the Koby, which I felt was important for best FBL performance with minimal weight.
