Default Motor Problem

Hi Guys,

I am mounting the motor 4035-560, however the manual says to put 4 screws to hold the motor on the plate, only 2 screws will line up. Am I missing something here

I had the same issue, the 4035-560 has a 30*25 bolt spacing not the standard 30*30.
I have been told by a few people, that 2 bolts are sufficient for this motor, sport/general flying.

The 5020 I am using and I think the 4525 and 4530 others are using from the Scorpion range use 4 of the 30mm holes so don't have this problem. Other helis don't have a problem with just using 2 screws, the Logo for example often runs the 4035 like you are fitting with only 2 screws used, I don't think it will be an issue for you.

The shaft will break LONG before you break the motor bolts, actually during all years I have been flying I have not have a single one which the motor bolts break, and then we are talking most motors had 3mm bolts until a year ago or two.

Drilling the motor will get material inside the motor and is FAR more dangerous then running two bolts, which I do not even consider a risk.

The kit includes a wide button head hex bolts. I used the 2 hole wide spacing, should not have any problem with this setup. I do agree however that I was confused there for a minute. with the 4 cap screw drill pattern.

the 4035 will be fine for general sport flying and light 3d. Ill be putting the new Mikado motor in as soon as the factory sends it to me.

i presumed it would be the motor mount that needed drilling!
what would worry me is one screw comng loose, for such a simple task i would have thought 4 was better then 2

Aha, Ok, I was thinking drilling and tapping the motor which I know some have done on other machines, ending in catastrophe

2 bolts is MORE than sufficient. I don't use any bolts...I just super glue the motor to the mount and it's fine.

The goblin manual shows the 4035 560 as a motor listed in their application chart,

I wish that they would have either mentioned that is was going to be a two bolt mount, or manufacture the goblin mount frame to accomidate a 4 bolt mount.

I dont like a 2 bolt mount and would have made another motor choice, if I had known.

Wiz, what's wrong with a 2 bolt mount?

I haven't had a problem with using 2 bolts I am using a 4035 530 doing hard 3d and light 3d.

That is what thread-lock is for. Also consider that as the first stage is a belt there is considerably less lateral force on the motor shaft (gears want to push away from each other) so the chance of a 2 bolt mount slipping are pretty slim.

It's just that after 20+ years of doing electrical work in and around industrial settings (power plants and gas plants) evey time (ok not every time) but many time when I hear "two bolts should be fine - it's just a little motor", sooner or later, things rattle loose, shafts get bent, bolts get sheared, gears get stripped, chains get broken, belts get smoked, tempers get flared and on and on! LOL

So you see it's just a "personal problem"

Probably will be fine and of course you can check it out before every flight, I just dont like the thought of all that torque being anchored between two little screws when everything else is so robust in the drive train. In truth, a motor's torque is only as good as it's base mount.

Yeah it can be a mindgame! If it helps I've been running a powercroco motor on two bolts and thus far it has not twitched.
