How much puffing is ok?

Hey guys,

I am not sure how much puffing to tolerate and what other things would cause me to just throw a lipo out. TY.

With lipo batteries if they start to puff I take them out of service and out of the house. I have found in most cases when they puff your balance per cell will diminish. So you do not know when in flight the battery will fail--then WHAT. Also hard to get full charge. Just MHO !

TY, what is the most clean way to rid of lipos?

poke them with somthing on a long pole/stick or use a long cable to overcharge then discard as normal.

Do this only outdoors, on concrete or steel, safe place, do not inhale fumes.

Have a bucket of water/hose next to you if it gets out of hand.

They go to regular garbage disposal ok?

They are fine to go in the trash i assume, I have read this a few times, also the only reason i suggest puncturing it is because it is puffed, make sure to discharge non puffed batteries to under 3v, and toss them.

ah that was my question i was wondering if i need to bring it to battery disposal, coz i wasn't sure if lipos were toxic or whatnot.

RC LiPo, or RC lithium-ion polymer, batteries can be found in such products as hearing aids, laptops and cell phones. These batteries come charged and can safely be disposed of in the trash, unlike many other types of batteries, after they have been fully discharged. The important thing is that you discharge LiPo batteries in a safe manner before getting rid of them.

You can also follow this method, it will take alot longer but is a bit safer.

Doesnt really work that well, usually you end up corroding away the tabs on the cells before they discharge completely.

If you are really worried discharge through a large value resister, it will take a long time but the pack shouldn't do anything nasty.
