Hi,
I just acquired a Trex 600 motor with the original black Align motor. Does anyone know if this is this as good, better or worse than a Scorpion motor? I was told Scorpions require a lot of bearing maintence. Also should I be oiling Align motors bearings? Thanks |

The old 600Xl is very underpowered by today's standards...
The Scorpion 4025-1100 is the 6S motor I tried, it is more powerful.

snlreor@yahoo.com Hi,
I asked this question before but now I have more info on the motors I have and wondering if anyone has opinions on which to use in a Trex 600. The first one I have is a Align 650xl 1220 KV or a Scorpion 4020 1390KV. So which will be the best between the 2 and which will last longest? Thanks |

Neither motor is really suitable, IMO.
The Align motor is old and has been replaced by newer versions. It is powerful enough for a 600 but will probably leave you disappointed in the long term. The Scorpion motor is perhaps "better" in terms of quality, but it is definitely not powerful enough (1800W). It was designed for the 500-550 class of helis. Both motors require oiling periodically, as do all motors. You will want a motor with a minimum of 2000W of power, and 3000W is better. The Scorpion 4025-1100 mentioned by snjbird was a very popular motor for a while in the 600 (2200W), but in recent years it too has become outdated. If you plan to stay at 6s power you could go with the newer Align 600MX-1220 motor (3000W) which is priced well, or any of the other popular models by Scorpion, Viper, Castle....

I have had the L, the M, the XL and finally the MX. MX is the best. It has more punch.

Im playing with the turnigy T600 4030 1100kv motor. So far im very impressed. 2300 head speed pulling 13 deg of pitch has failed to heat the motor up past 110 deg on the windings. Was thinking about trying 14 deg of pitch but I can run back to back packs right now and love it. Timer is set to 5 mins. Has more power then my os50 nitro bird.

If you want to stay more trouble free, stick with the scorp motors. I have read a ton of posts lately on guys having issues with the align motors. Lots of out of balance stuff. I have heard good reviews however on a few of the turnigy's.
