Default Which Kontronik ESC?

Ok, I need an Esc for my Protos. Had a jive in the past on another Heli, and loved it. I'm thinking of trying the Koby on my Protos. Anyone have input on it? And can I save some $ and use the Koby 40, or will I need the 55 or 70?

what is wrong with the yge 60 msh esc (not the lipotech or whaterver the old one was) Pretty much same gov and everything the kontrinics has and a better value. I would have to say that the 40 amp koby would not be sufficient and lack of any headroom. I personaly use castle ice lite on my helis smaller than 550 and regular ice on the larger. Also the new firmware has gov working fabulous. No you dont need a seperate bec with the lite 100 on the protos even with the best of servos stretched or not and it will fit under the battery tray as it is the same physical size as the 75 lite. I find them easier to set up than yge/ kontronics and the data logging is a +++. IF you must have kontronics I would go with the 70 for sure especialy stretched swinging bigger blades = more amp draw

Nothing wrong with the YGE, just don't have one. Had an Align BL70, and it got damaged in a crash. Unfortunately in not a big fan of CC. I've had bad experiences with them, + they are a little bulky. I've used Kontronik, very pleased with their performance.

Does koby has the mode 11 governor?
I think this mode is the greatest feature of these ESC's (like set RPM). YGE has the same mode, and it really makes all the difference, since RPM on each isn't depending on battery condition.

I have a Koby 70A on my Protos Stretch and a CC ICE LITE 100 on my Protos 500. They both work fine but the Koby is better at the governed head speed. Both come down cool.

Thanks for all the input. I've heard that I can safely get away with using the Koby 55. Now I'm looking for a good deal on one.

Why not a YGE 60?
Koby doesn't have the mode 11, equivalent to the YGE's governor store mode, which makes all the difference.
The real advantage of the Koby would be the adjustable BEC.

+1 for CC Lite 100 Mines working flawless. Ya you may not have quite as high Gov speed, But it stays the same every pack, every time. And the price, well what can I say

Well I like Kontronik from experience. But I have only used the jive in the past, so not quite sure how the Koby compares. Isnt the YGE 60 for the Mini, and the YGE 80 is for the 500? Anyhow, nothing against YGE, just feel going with Kontronik is an upgrade. Ive only flown this heli using an Align BL70, and was happy, so I havent experienced the YGE yet. I actually just picked up another Align, to hold me off until I find a good deal on the Kontronik, or even the YGE.

A YGE is pretty similar to a Jive in terms of performance, the only real difference is the Jive does more fancy auto-tuning of motor parameters and HV YGEs have no BEC.

Gov store on a YGE is equivalent to mode 11 on a Jive and the governor is about the same in terms of quality. You can also get a version with a built in phase sensor for use with a VBar or similar governor.

I would go with the YGE IMO, closer to jive performance than the Koby (as no mode 11).

Thanks. Im not seeing any deals on either of them, so I will probably just save the difference between the YGE and Koby, and buy the YGE brand new.
Next question in going with the YGE. In previous post, others are talking about the 60amp esc, but to my understanding, the 60 amp is for the mini, while the 500 requires the 80amp. Which is correct?

The YGE 60A was the original ESC supplied and I would guess the majority of the guys out there with the 500 have the 60A. Recently MSH updated to a 80A, even though I haven't seen anyone killing the 60A. The 80A will run cooler and if you are a hard flyer, planing on running the newer Scorpion motor, fly in a hot climate and stretching then it might be worth the few extra dollars. But it is not a required update, more a bit of extra insurance.

The YGE auto-timing (another great feature of both escs) works as good as the kontronik. There are no additional auto parameters in the kotronik esc.

The YGE80 is an upgrade, not an update. I don't think the 500 comes with the 80A esc. Difference is, when stretched, the 80A heats up a lot less than the 60A.

Thanks, I didn't realise it was an upgrade, I had assumed when MSH started carrying them that they were going to put them in the kits as well. Sorry for the mis-information....
