12kHz is the setting for that motor and it is an 8s-10s motor.

" First, X-Era motors are not like most other outrunner motors.* Any setting on an ESC designated "outrunner" should not be used.* Specifically, Castle Creations has added "outrunner PWM" mode.* This setting may cause higher running temps on X-Era motors and*SHOULD NOT*be used.* The default 12khz setting or higher is recommended.* Using higher PWM frequencies will result in a cooler motor and warmer ESC.* So if your ESC is undersized slightly, use a lower PWM frequency to lower ESC temperatures.* If the ESC is oversized relative to the motor, then a higher PWM frequency will decrease motor temperatures slightly."

Temps were constant @ 120F or less.

also on XERA site, the 710kv peak power amp draw on 10S is 90A. So i think that on 8s the max amp draw would have been more, weather it was much more than the 100A esc , we dont know until we get the castle amp log. May be a possible reason, but if not , you just got a faulty esc. BTW is your heli back up? if not hope you get it flying soon.
