Default K-Force 120A HV, Hyperion Sensor, VBAR - which firmware version?

Hi,

I've ordered a Turnighy K-force 120HV and was surprised that it did not include the phase sensor like the newer HW versions do. I do have a Hyperion phase sensor and want use it with a VBAR.

So my question is which version of the firmware works well with this combo? V1.08_101106_U or V1.08_101106_U_A?

I've read a couple of conflicting reports so I'm hoping someone who has this combo can confirm.

Thanks,
Alex

I am using the U_A version very successfully with vbar and Hyperion sensor. It is my understanding that they created this software version specifically for use with analog sensors like the Hyperion.

Thanks! I've been using the U_a version on it as well for a handful of flights now and all is good.

I think some of the guys at the field had their U and U_A versions mixed up b/c they were pretty adamant that I was using the wrong one.

Mr.Mel posted a while ago that the _u version is the right one.

I can't find that post. I have found some that say use the U with the HW sensor and the UA with the Hyperion sensor. If you could post a link I'd appreciate it. I don't want to be using less than optimal firmware. Thanks

I don't have a link and I don't have time right now to find it but here is a screen shot of the post. This is before the HW sensors came out.

OK, I think I've found it. Try this link, post #70. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1584551&page=5 From what I'm reading here it seems the U_A is the fix for the analog sensor. I could not read the screen cap very well so I wonder if Mr Mel was talking about an earlier firmware update that predated the U_A?

It's interesting how Castle Creations are following the mistakes and potential resolutions of cheaper controllers.

Sep 21, 2011, Hobbywing released a new firmware named "V1.08_101106_U_A"for Platinum-120A-HV Pro ESC (Hardware version HW120_V2.0A, firmware version V1.08_101106_U) to solve the compatiblity issue with the Mikado V-Bar governor function.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Hobbywing released a new Platinum-120A-HV ESC in July 2011, its hardware version is HW120_V2.0A, and the firmware version is V1.08_101106_U. Compared with the old version, the new ESC has the following improvements:

1. Quicker response and better driving effect when the motor load has a sudden increment.

2. More powerful.

But soon we got some responses that the firmware had compatibility problem with V-Bar (Mikado) governor function, we did some tests immediately and got the following results:

1. When using the ESC (loaded with the firmware V1.08_101106_U) with some electronic RPM sensors (such as Hyperion EMeter II Phase Tachometer, this tachometer is connected to one phase of the brushless motor wires), the sensor outputs error RPM signal, which makes V-Bar system work abnormally.

2. When using traditional magneto-electrical tachometer, the V-Bar system still works well.

HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

After doing the above tests, Hobbywing immediately made a new firmware to solve the problem. This new firmware has already been tested by some pilots. It works well with electronic phase sensors.

NEWS UPDATE:

Hobbywing makes its own RPM sensor in Nov 2011, and this new product is sold as a standard accessary of Platinum-120A-HV, Platinum-70A-HV, FlyFun-100A-HV and FlyFun-80A-HV ESC. The Hobbywing RPM sensor is compatible with any firmware of the above ESC's, that means if you use Hobbywing RPM sensor, the above ESC's are always compitable with V-Bar governor function.

Also make sure you look at this link http://www.hobbywing.com/news_show.asp?id=175 From what I can tell reading this it looks like Mr Mel was talking about the "Software Version" not the "Choice Version" if you look at the Hobby Wing screen cap of their GUI.

Could be. Thanks for that. I've been using the _u firmware "but" I'm using the HW sensor so if I'm understanding it correctly it makes no difference with it. The only esc's I use the Hyperion sensor on is my Align ones.

Yes with the HW sensor you just use the U (which is the default programming). If running the Hyperion you use the U_A. That is my understanding anyway. I can also say, from personal experience, that it works great with the U_A.
