Default Want to upgrade motor and battery, any idea?

I want to upgrade the motor and battery.
Basically I want a more powerful motor (is Xtreme motor a good one?)
And I want a bigger battery, I can accept even to replace a bigger battery tray to get a 800mhA or even bigger battery.

Any good recommendation?

Yep...get the extreme motor, I have it and it really woke this bird up..........As for batts, I use the stockers at this time, though I occasionally use the 600 mah that my mcpx brushless uses as well

This 1300mhA battery looks cool. But how can you mount it to the heli? Do you mod the battery tray?

I'm using this http://astroid-designs.myshopify.com/collections/120sr
but it's currently out of stock. You'll either need to modify the stock one, purchase the RKH mount, improvise your own or wait until these come back in stock.

The Astroid one works great for me....been using it with the 1300s for a year.

I am very to new RC helicopters and have had my 120 SR for about a week and a half. I am still trying to learn how to fly but I am addicted to modding, changing anything I own...much to my wife's chagrin. I have turned my Mini Cooper S into a beast but thats for another forum.

If I am just learning to fly would it be too soon to but this Xtreme motor for my bird?

if I had to do it again .. I would have gone down the same path .. Just would have gone there faster

go for durability first

I broke 2 things to start (not counting landing gear which is just comical)

1. Battery Cage - you don't need to be an engineer to know that part is at risk
2. Tail Motor Mount - maybe it was just me ... But they were not designed for impact

get the tray from android designs .. And never look back

I went the micro heli path .. But either way its a solid upgrade

then you can practice and get better to then buy parts to make you go faster

Thanks! I will get it now. I ended buying an mCX2 this weekend because I just wanted to fly SOMETHING. I spend so much time either fixing, soldering or buying new Tail Motor Mounts, Tail Motors and that darn little black bearing on the tail in between blade and motor so I know what you mean by "not designed for impact." Also, two weeks in I am just not a very good RC Heli pilot yet Thanks for the reply.

You can't go wrong with advice from previouse post. Keep flying skill level will come with time

I set goals for myself with the stock 120 SR before upgrading, Told myself I must be able to fly 3 times in a row with no crashes, be able to chase myself with nose in hovers through my house or visa versa, and figure 8's both ways. This is my heli now

Like you said about your mini cooper, It is a completely different beast than the stock.
I have been having serious issues with weight and flight time however. I get maybe 3 minutes with stock and protech 550 batteries before it decends to hover just an inch off the ground. If anyone could point me in the direction of a good battery, Id appreciate it

At one time I was going to get all kinds of upgrades hoping to make my heli less breakable and fly better. As it turns out my flying skills have taken care of the breakage problem and it seems the weight issue hinders speed and maneuverability. So I will continue to fly stock and when it does happen I will replace broken parts for a couple of bucks.

They are stock, I just painted them red with gold tips to match the red rakon/carbon fiber look

Did you balance the blades after painting? Paint adds weight as I have found out myself

Nah i don't care to much about the little bit of weight some paint might add and the heli flies just as good as it did before and looks rad as the blades spin up

Mike, your mods look awesome, can you list them and how much you have expended on them? How about a pic with the canopy in place?

Have you found any solutions to the weight issue?
