Does anyone know if the coil in the middle of the reciever wire on some ESC,s has a function or is just to shorten the lead somewhat ??? I am setting up a 500 and the throttle wire is a bit short so i was going to remove the coiled up part but i noticed that it appeared to have been done like that before the ends were pressed.. Am wondering if that is done for some kind of electric field disturbance or something ??? Any thoughts much appreciated ta .. Cheers from down under

The ferrite ring is an electromagnetic interference device. It prevents the electrical 'noise' from the ESC from entering the receiver.

2.4GHz systems don't really need it. You can either break the ring by squeezing it with needle nose pliers or pull the pins from the connector and taking it out.
