Default Blade MQX or Walkera QR Ladybird.

Hi all,

New to quad rotors but not new to flying 4 channel helis.
My question is this if you were to get a first quad what would you get between the MQX and the QR Ladybird and why?

the mqx, and the reason being is it is larger and will be able to handle more in terms of wind. also should you have the desire to do so it can carry a keychain cam, i am not sure but i would have to say the ladybird may have trouble doing so. i myself plan to get the lady bird as i want something smaller for indoor flight. but for outdoor flight i suggest going with the mqx.

I like them both but only have experience with the mQX. I can say with certitude that the mQX is a blast to pilot and one tough bird. So my vote is for the mQX.

I had already visited that link from another thread but... I can't find exact name/model norvwhere to buy it. Any suggestion? Is it a "stock" model, or a sort of home-made thing? I'm interested...

Default Got all kinds of quads, get one of each....or more, I has to :)

And from a 2' mtm (xaircraft), ardrone, mQX, ladybird, (scorpion is comming), I never learned anything flying the AR drone, while both mQX and ladybird have teached me a lot about things I was not keeping track of.
And the ladybird is winning the flight time cuz I have been taking it everywhere, it does very good outside wind (bobbles a little bit, settles down quick). It's small enough to not be noticed by people walking by he he, ( I can't talk and fly )
The mQX is fitted with 20 mW Vtx, so I only do that when it's dead calm and park is empty.
It's training me for fpv on the xaircraft 650....
Bangoods version looks like the control board and the frame are more crash worthy in the bigger board and a ring around the frame, while ladybird and wltoy beetle are same size, and a larger beetle is same size as mQX, for 45$, I got them as backups he he,

You can build it for your self with the HH and Walkera parts,,
or buy it in germany at http://www.modellbau-oberhausen.de/

I have the mqx and it's a blast to fly. All my heli's are blade. Parts are easily accessible and they are tough. I have never flown the ladybird so I can't comment on that.

I can give what I feel is honest feedback as I have owned the mqx, ladybird and also built the hybrid. I'm not bashing anyone and there's nothing wrong with saying how much you enjoy your helicopter I do that all the time myself, but I will say I don't think it's right when people say that one is better than the other, but have never even flown the other one personally. So here are my thoughts. Doesn't mean they are right as each person likes different things, but these are just my experiences/personal preferences.

I first got the mqx and thought it was just awesome. I pretty much only fly HH stuff and have all my money invested in spectrum so it was the first choice. It handled well outside and was pretty maneuvarable. Basically it gave me the quad bug. The down sides I found was even thought it flew pretty well in wind it did have some issues when the stronger breezes came through.

So next up I wanted a smaller spectrum version so I built the hybrid. Really enjoyed it and it flew very well. Much more nimble and did better in wind. I liked it so much I thought I guess I should give the real deal a shot and picked up a walkera v1 with 2402d transmitter.

After getting the v1 ladybird, I never looked back. Blew both of the others out of the water in my mind. Once again just my personal preference but here's a few reasons why.

- People assume that the mqx would fly better in wind since it's larger, but that is actually quite the opposite and here's why. First off the ladybird is direct driven via the motors while the mqx is gear driven. The gear driven is less efficient so therefor didn't fly near as well for me in the wind as the ladybird. I just flew the ladybird in 20 mph winds yesterday and it actually did it pretty well. Second it's a lot smaller and we are dealing with 4 props, so there is a much smaller "sail" area to be effected, so it just handles the wind much better

-Another point is the fact that the ladybird is direct drive, there are much, much, much lesser parts and less to trouble shoot. The ladybird has a frame, four motors with boom connected and the board. That's it. While the mqx has frame, four seperate booms, four motors, carbon shaft rods, gears, motor mount, motor protector and board, so many more parts to deal with.

-The ladybird is way more maneuvarable. That's just truth. Not saying the mqx is bad, it's a great reality, but if raced side by side someone has to win and the ladybird is hands down faster and can cut corners much quicker. The ladybird flips and rolls are insane compared to the mqx.

-Lastly the size. It's small enough you can actually kind of do some decent flying indoors while the mqx can moreso just be hovered around indoors due to size. When I say indoors I'm meaning a smaller house like mine. In a larger open room I can get either one going fairly decent.

Off point kind of but also the ladybird just sounds wicked cool compared to the mqx. It sounds like a swarm of bee's and it's just cool!

So once again these are just my opinions but after owning all three of them, the mqx just sits and the hybrid was sold in order to buy a real ladybird and I'm glad I did.

I am a huge fan and supporter of horizon hobby and their products, so know I'm not a walkera fan boy. The reality is for me the ladybird just wins this one hands down. Pretty much better in every single way. I've had to replace and repair quite a few parts on my mqx (trust me it's tough but I fly it hard and have had some pretty bad crashes) and have had some of the same crashes on the ladybird and haven't had to replace one single thing yet. The only positive to mqx would be a little bigger (but that can also be a down side if flying indoors) and the fact that it's spektrum.

If you are wanting a spektrum ladybird and don't want to build the hybrid, there is a thread I started on a new board that drops into the ladybird and is a spektrum board. It's not a hybrid type build it's a direct drop in piece and is the same size as the stock board. No one has any real reviews on it yet but I and a few others have ordered them so we can review it. If I can have a ladybird that flies identical to the original ladybird and use my spektrum radio then I will be in heaven.

Here is the link on rcgroups of the thread:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1745470

and hobby-wing is selling and arf version of it which is really a bnf:
http://www.hobby-wing.com/dsm2-quadcopter-arf.html

on top of that you can pick up the rtf ladybird v1 with 2402d transmitter for $75 from nitroplanes.com or xheli.com Also use the code pricepickle and get another 6% off.

Thanks so much jlcamp7. I'm new to Quad and has been comparing various models, you give me some very important facts that I can use to determine.

Another thing with the ladybird rtf package with the2402d is if you turn the aux to on in the transmitter it makes the quad even more docile and is perfect for a beginner.

I got the Walkera LadyBird first, with the 2402D transmitter. I had a blast with it. Fun and easy to fly, flies well, handles the wind, hard to break.

Recently I got the mQX and flew several packs through it, and did some basic side-by-side comparison in similar conditions. Light breeze with a few gusts. I'm flying the mQX with my DX7 and I started with the D/R set to 50%, so it was nice and docile, similar to the LadyBird in 'red mode' (stable mode).

Though I've read the previous comments above, I can't say that I find a huge difference in how they each fly. The mQX is also fun. I like that it is a little bigger and easier to see orientation. It's more powerful and get altitude quicker. As it is a bit heavier, it is not as squirrely or twitchy as the LadyBird, but the LadyBird does seems to have a better stability system and holds level flight better in most conditions. When I switched the DX7 to 100% 'servo range' and went for a few flips, I liked how the mQX flipped. Fairly predictably and not blindingly fast, like the LadyBird flips (in green mode).

The LadyBird is a blast in that it is small and can fly just about anywhere, and is fun indoors, where the mQX makes me a little nervous indoors with its larger props.

Basic summary, I like them both, and can't really pick a definite winner. Both a fun part of my fleet. The size is probably the most major difference, and which transmitter you might already have.
