Default A Few Tweaks (Tail still overshooting)

Ok guys... The maiden of my friends L600SE that I built and programmed went great!

I just need to make a few adjustments.

When pirouetting at full stick both left and right, letting go of the rudder results in an overshoot of the tail. How do I get the tail to stop on a dime (or at least more abruptly)?

It overshoots both ways but tail going to the right is worse.

I actually can't think of any other adjustment needed right now. I'm sure I will after the next flying session though.

Two thumbs up for the SE and my first time setting up V-Bar myself.

Lower the stop gain a couple points on both sides in the tail expert menu and try again. Stop A is for CW piros and Stop B is for CCW piros.

Thanks. I did that and will hopefully get some more flights on Thu. to test.

Steve,

Lowering the stop gain didn't cure the overshooting of the tail.

I tried (was 20), 18 (seemed a little worse) and then 16 (to make sure it was worse).

Then I tried raising it (22, 24, 25) that didn't really help it either.

I even tried raising the regular tail gain. That didn't help.

Holding full left rudder and then letting the stick go (back to center) results in the tail overshooting 18-30 inches beyond where it should have stopped.

Holding full right rudder the heli starts the pirouette slowly, then speeds up but the stop (stick let go to center) still overshoots about 6-12 inches.

Giving the collective a little blip/punchout also causes the tail to rotate to the right about 8-12 inches or more.

I should probably ask this in the V-Bar forum now.

Any other ideas? I must be missing something.

ps I have absolutely NO wag. The tail is rock solid in a hover.

Well I was there, and since you may be on different schedules- the tail wasnt making noise nor wagging, just overshooting. The tail gain was at 90 which is high for my outrage 550.

Blink, the HS "should" be 1663 according to MrMel's HS calc.

Throttle 60%: 1663
Throttle 65%: 1715
Throttle 70%: 1767
Throttle 75%: 1819
Throttle 80%: 1871

Xera 4035/3y-400kv, 35c 12s batt, 12t pinion, Jive mode 4, Edge 105's & 690's

And as Jon mentioned, no noise on the tail at all.

I'll have to tach it next time out to verify.

Well this is quite strange and I havent much to say about this. I had slow wag issues in a hover that no gain or setting could adjust on my 600 3D, So i simply just ignored it and did a 4:35 minute 3D flight, next flight it was fine.

Silly idea but perhaps just fly it and hope for the best until you get proper help from mr mel? :-)

Also, try drastic tail settings, high stop gains, high p gain, high i gain, higher acceleration numbers, ignore tail wag as long is its not very bad and see if the stops are better.
PS what tail servo are you using?

Blink, the tail is a brand new BLS251.

I am going to try some suggested settings from Fredrik.

Slider gain 85
60 Acceleration
75 P gain
75 I gain

Pre comp (we'll probably have to raise collective a bit)
10 collective
3 cyclic

Stop
20 A
20 B

@ OT, I checked the tail bellcrank. Looks ok.

If all goes well Tue, I'll be continuing MY 600SE build.

Went with:

Slider gain 95
75 Acceleration
75 P gain
75 I gain
