Default I AM SO FREAKING MAD AT THIS 130a SBEC!

I bought two of these ESC's when they first came out. I have wasted half my summer having them fail and sending them back to Scorpion (Thanks to Richard for his support BTW).

Went to spool up this morning an "pop" that was all she wrote!

The SBEC version is a huge disappointment! I wish I would have waited for the non SBEC version, those seem to be more reliable!

I would like to thank Richard for working with me at Scorpion, but sending these back and forth has been nothing more than an exercise in futility as they continue to fail. At 50.00 dollars shipping I can no longer afford to continue.

Before anyone lays into me about a setup problem, cold solder joints, shorted motor, please dont, this has been going on since the product released and not with just me but others that visit this forum as well. I have gone over my setup dozens of times, sent my motor and ESC in for repair. There just has to be something else going on with the SBEC version other than random failures!

At this point, I still have my second ESC, but have lost complete confidence in the controller. I can't afford to risk wrinkling my Heli with another failure. I'm into this for over $700 for the ESC's and another $150 for three separate shipping charges to Hong Kong!

It's looking like I need to cut my losses and move on. Like flushing $850.00 down the toilet! I'm so freaking disappointed! Scorpion has stellar motors and service, but something is amiss with the two controllers I have! Maybe the penalty for being an early adopter and scooping them up in the first batch IDK?

I can completely understand your frustration, why don't you ask scorpion to swop them around for some le motors, I'm sure they will do that for you.

Hi

I know its not much help, but i have hundreds of flights with that esc, and it still perform excellent.
I have one of the first, so maybe its not just 'first' batch models, which has this problem.

Hope you will find a good way to solve your poblem

+1 I've had great luck and it's so easy to use! Sorry for your bad experiences.... Hopefully scorpion makes it right!

Default Scorpion Commander V SBEC 3 x failed

I too have very unfortunate experience with this ESC. I have 3 failures with the same motor (4525 540LE) and Commander V SBec. I keep sending them back to scorpion motor and esc. and each flight only lasted less than 3 minuets. Normal more HS 1680 is normal. Switch to Idel 2 still normal but when i apply heavy load,(tictac) the motor cut outs and esc went dead. Same experience for the 3 attempts. I almost lost my heli right after the 2nd attempt, did a test on motor and esc on the bench with blades of to test if motor and esc still functions. motor sputter during the start up and then the esc caught fire. almost burn the battery. Luckily i was fast enough to pull the battery cable. Only the battery shrink warp was burned. Battery is still good.

1st return: ESC repaired but seems motor was untouched
2nd repair ESC was replaced and motor was re-wounded and bearing was changed.
3rd ESC is dead but bec is working but only 4 volts. ( program it for 7.4 volt) need to send to Scopion again.

Here is my setup
Goblin 700 with 22T
Motor: 4525 520kv LE
ESC Commander V 130 SBEC firmware HV701W4, External Governor, Acceleration 0,15s , timing 5 degree
Battery Tunigy Nanotech 65C
Vbar 5.3 Pro
1100 Life battery for backup power
Governor Enable in VBAR
BLS 255HV
BLS 256HV
Headspeed 2150
Scorpion Opto cable used in VBAR rpm sensor port

Settings at the VBar governor:
- Throttle min -100% / max +100%
- Governor gain 40%
- Collective add 40%
- Cyclic add 15%
- Collective dynamic 15%
- Max head speed 2200
- Gear ratio 9.27
-Sensor Config 5

My heli suffered minor damaged when the motor cuts out due to hard landing and have spent over $150 in parts replacement and spent another $40 for freight back scorpion. I have to spend another 20 to send it back this time.

I noticed that on this most recent attempt the motor emitted a peculiar sound as if it was out sync with the esc when the motor cutout. Could it be the motor problem in relation to magnet spacing that could cause the ESC to malfunction? Don't know what to do now very frustrating been in the route for the past 2 1/2 months.

Could fellow flying chime in what could be wrong in my setup of do 1 really have a defective unit? Please take note motor came back with same motor housing and same serial number so i am sure that motor was never change. I cut the shaft to fit the Goblin and notice same motor shaft when it came back from Scorpion.

Any suggestion for motor and esc setup? I really want to use Vbar Governor and i want a SBEC ESC .

I have about 200+ flights on my sbec with the SZ4926 motor from Compass. I have not experienced any problems at all with this product. Mine is also from the first batch.

I hope that you get things sorted!

Wonder what the modifications are and if the SBEC version will also have any improvements in the next batch? Does anyone know?

I'm waiting for my replacement too (SBEC) and I'm really nervous using this again.

I have been experiencing the same issue. Landing my last flight the other day the motor just quit. I thought I might have hit low voltage and it cut off, but then I realized I had no controll. Luckily it was only a couple feet up and landed OK. I checked the telemetry and had 0 volts on the reciever. Unplugged the batteries and plugged them back in and it wouldn't even arm. did it again and it armed fine.
I also was able to reproduce it on the bench just playing with the cyclic and pitch watching the telemtry readout. Everything seemed fine and then it just quit. Hooked up vbar to the pc and it just shows low voltage in the log.
I thought it might have something to do with the opto phase sensor, or the bec. I haven't unhooked the phase sensor, order an cc bec pro yet. I am starting to think I need to replace the exc. Is there anything else to test?
