Default New 600 first flights, now tail drift

Got a 600 for my birthday from my wife and just flew the first flights last week. This is my second heli with the 450 being my first a year and a half ago. Man is this thing fun, four four minute flights with some stall turns thrown in for fun. Then my instructor put it through some pretty decent 3d to check it out, I was getting on his case about throwin it around so much. Guess I know it can take it now Not really a big deal as I totally trust him, he coud fly a rock if it had blades on it. specs below
600CF
Align CF blades
Neu 1515/2.5D/F (11t)
Align 100A ESC
6A regulator
9451's
611 gyro w/servo
TP 5000 (FP's on the way)
DX-7

Have question about the tail, will get with my instructor but he is out of town.
Had the tail servo set-up with the standard wheel, ball about 9.5mm out from center and had the tail blades set up straight with the servo 90 degrees. Gain was 32 or 33 if I remember. Endpoints in the gyro were 115 and 120 Flew great except piro was a bit slow so I increased EPA to 110 % all was good.
I was told I was going to burn up the servo with such a short arm.
I changed to the star wheel and now the ball is 11.5 mm out, centered the slider this time (blades are not straight in the center) gyro endpoints are now 102 and 105 set the EPA back to 100%, gain 30-31. I now get a slight left drift (nose to the left) everthing seems real free I know I am just missing something here.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Richard

You shouldnt get a slow drift if you are in HH mode. The only reason for this would be if the gyro did not initialise on flat ground. Believe me I have had this problem with my 450.

Cheers
Glenn

Check out Nigel Brown's setup procedure and see if anything is amiss. He recommends not leaving the gyro set so that you can switch between HH and rate mode, but personally I like to be able to do this to re-zero the gyro after carrying it around to the flight line. Glen makes a good point too. I have seen on mine that if I touch the rudder stick at all before the gyro fuly initializes (or move the heli, or initialize without it nice and flat) that the tail servo will do wierd things in HH mode, like drift to one side for no reason. So when you turn on the RX, make sure your radio is set to turn the gyro to HH mode (IE a positive ATV on the gear or AUX2 channel, whichever you used to set gain) and don't touch anything for several seconds until the gyro fully initializes...

Good luck Hope that helps.

Where is your gyro mounted? This is exactly how they act if you have a vibration problem. Finless found a problem with mounting them too close to the front tail rotor belt pulley. I have seen this when the tail blades are out of balance or the belt was too tight.
I run the star wheel at 11.5 also on just about every heli I have installed a 601/611 in. Make sure that it has initialized correctly (the (A) is on at center stick).

I have the gyro mounted on the lower tray. receiver battery tray I think it is called. I am running the TT on the tail and a carbon boom. Maybe I just did not let it initialize properly. Have not really had time to fly since the change just another test hover tonite. It seems a bit better, I might bump the gain up a bit more. Should be able to get some flights in later this week. Also I will set up the gyro for HH only as well, I will never use rate mode. Thanks for the suggestions I will just fly it and see what happens.

Richard, you don't mean the flimsy diving board below the tail case did you? It should go on something rigid, like the tail boom case. Please post a pic if you get a chance so we can see what's going on here. Here is where many people put the sensor... Works like a champ for me. The diving board is a good place for the rx battery or the rx itself.

Regards,
-Fog

Yes that is where I have it, the diving board. My receiver is on top of the boom block. Put it there so I only had to add a small extension to the ESC instead of two servos. I pretty much set it up like my instructors and he puts his there. The guy can fly very well. Remember the video of the guy doing an inverted landing auto? He is my instructor so I pretty much trust his judgement. Should be getting together with him this weekend and we will have look. Again, thanks for the suggestions I do see what you are saying about the board being not as rigid as the tail block so I may end up moving it. I did have the cable a little tight to the sensor and I dont think I waited long enough for the gyro to initialize.
