Default Anyone take parts from Blade 450x to put in the Mini?

Hey guys, I'm a relative newbie (BL mcpx) and might be getting the Blade 450x as my first 'big' heli. Once I get better on that, I would love to get a Mini.

I wanted to know what parts, if any, could be used in the Mini. Would love to minimize the upgrade cost as much as possible

Or any other suggestions are welcome!

Thanks

Perhaps the blades?

Go straight to the mini, you won't be disappointed

There is probably only 1 piece off the 450x and that would be the BeastX/Spektrum FBL controller. You can't use the motor, the servos are not worth moving across, the ESC with the mini Protos is much better, maybe the Lipo packs but really it's not worth it.

You would be better off selling the 450x as a unit and getting the mini Protos when ready or just go for the mini Protos to start with.

From what all of you are saying... skip the 450x and get the Mini.

How much is the "average" cost of buying/building the Mini? I know it really depends on the parts, but could you guys please give some examples?

I'm putting together a budget and would like to have a decent idea. Also maybe include the most likely to need spares?

Thanks

If you've never built a heli, a mini might be a bit of a beast to start with.

It will cost you more than double what the 450X is.

I'd go with the 450X, then sell it and get a mini.

Parts availability will be easier on the 450X. you WILL crash.

I thought about the 450X, but went with the mini as my first big heli.
I wanted to avoid the upgrade costs I experienced with BL mcpx's, so went the best straight away.
But if on a budget, i would get the 450X, fly it, crash it, rebuild it a few times and any upgrades i did I would make sure were things I could carry over to the mini, you could def use the AR7200BX, and if it uses micro servo's you could get some nice ones for the 450X and carry them over.
Most mini p's cost around $1k to get in the air, you can build cheap for $600 and best of best for $1200.

Started with a mCP X last summer.

I went with the Mini Protos as well as my first proper heli, last November. Went with high end components straight away. Never regretted it, 300+ flights, still waiting to crash it for the first time. Know it will happen at some point though. It is possible to push your boundaries hard without putting it in, simply because it flies so well. It's bad-ass, might be a bit intimidating at first, but every heli prolly will be.

I get all of your opinions/responces... Thanks!

I'm actually pretty mechanically inclined, like to work with my hands and build things. I also LOVE the way the mini sounds (I'm a music producer and my ears are finicky with sounds).

I'll most likely go for the Mini off the bat. If/when I crash, so be it....it'll make me a better pilot!

Would a couple of you mind listing the parts you built with, including rough costs? I'll do all the usual rabbit-hole web searches, but would be great to get a solid starting point!

You might want to reconsider the Heli not the Brand.

A Protos 500 should come in near the same price and is probably a better bird to learn.

Just one person's opinion.

My comment might have come on the wrong side.

The Mini is 10 times better than the 450X. For many reasons.

I went with this:

MSH Brain (Flybarred at the moment obviously)
Spektrum H3000 on cyclic
Futaba S9257 on tail
Gens Ace 3S 2200MAh 25C
AR6115E receiver (From my old Blade 450 3D hehe)
MSH YGE ESC
MSH Scorpion stock 3S motor
Stock SAB blades.
Everything stock.

That thing is a BEAST compared to the Blade 450.

The thing that stopped me getting the Protos 500:
All parts are a little bit more expensive.
Mains are a lot more expensive.
Packs are a lot more expensive.
A pain to get fbl, requires a few upgrade packs and if u want the best, you have to stretch it

I wanted the best mini p so went with:
Full stock kit
6S motor
Alu servo mounts
Alu 3rd bearing block
Alu pulley
Alu tail pulley
Low fbl head
MKS DS 95/i
Vbar mini
Stretch kit(flew standard for a couple of weeks, just stretched after an epic crash)
1300mah thunder power 65c packs

I have had 3 crashes, all because of a mechanical fault, due to my noob building skills, 2 cost <$25(main shaft, feathering spindle, tail shaft and tail blades), the epic was around $100(main blades, frame, motor mount, and all the shafts)

This is my list, shouldn't be hard to figure out pricing with this. I went with everything except the Al. servo supports and Al. 3rd bearing block. Got to warn you though, this setup is massively more expensive than a 450X. It will never bore you though :).

1 other option, since it is your first larger heli, consider a used 1 from the forums. You can save a substantial amount and still have a nice crash kit on the side

You will not be disappointed with it. Start with the 3s set up and turn down your th curve to 70% till you get use to it.

Otherwise as everyone else stated, 800- 1100 range to build.
kit, motor, esc, 430 3s ( Check MSH-Direct, Bill great guy)
servos, (good) 150 (savoxx or similar)
Beast x 200
Batts 20-50+ (Turnigy 2200s ,not nanotech)

If you want to upgrade:

Stretch 70
Low fbl 35?

Just shooting these #s off top of my head, pretty close I think???

You guys rock, thanks so much for all the info!

Will probably be end of summer when I start buying/building my Mini... this will give me a great place to start

edit: one more thing... what is "stretched" and why do it?

Stretched is longer boom and longer main blades.
Standard mains are 325mm, stretch is 350mm
Gets it flying like a bigger heli
