Default Why no DR for Align 250 with 3gx?

Hi JoeW and JohnB.

Thank you for you advice on the 250 with the 3GX, it helped me and my 250 now flies stable.

Question: Why do you advise that DR should be for flights? I can understand that one need to use full travel (100%) while doing the 3Gx setup, but while flying it would have no effect on the 3GX and its algorithms.

The transmitter output is a one-way reference to the 3GX of what you as pilot wants to do - using dual rates and expo only affects the joystick to TX output relationship, meaning the 3Gx receiving the commands have no idea that DR and expo is enabled, it just react on the reference input it received.

Or do I miss something?

The idea is, for best performance, tune the 3GX to fly the way you want it on 100%.

This is the recommendation from the developers, passed through the field reps.

It will perform best, when you're using the full range... so if it's too wild for you, tune it down instead of restricting the chanel values.

All you're doing with d/r is restricting the endpoints, which in turn slows the flip and roll rates. The developers say that you'll get better results is you allow it full 100% rate to give it the best resolution, and then change the flip and roll rates in the software. For the sake of easy math, 100% rate = 100 points of accuracy. 70% = 70. By changing the rate, you're taking away points of accuracy but spreading them out over a longer stick throw. You'll slow it down, but you'll also lose accuracy/precision.

Think of it like a nice big race engine... and then putting a restrictor plate on it because it's too much for you. The engine will work better if you tune it to run the way you want it to run without choking it's airflow.

You'll have better results if you tune it to behave the way you want it, without restricting the endpoints, instead of just jamming a sock in the carb and calling it done

Personally, I take expo out of the 3GX, and run my alieron and elevator with 20 expo accros the board, and 100% rates. Then adjust flip and roll rates to suit.
