Default What to do with my fusion 50

Hello guys,

I am very confused right now about my new project, the Fusion 50 FBL I bought a short time ago.

I have read several forums that people talk about the TT gears problem, and I have seen there will be available the new CNC TT gears soon.

The point is another colleague has bought a F50 and in his 4th flight the pinion gears get broken. He claim to the shop he bought the heli and they send the pieces with no charge. He has flown the heli 4 times more without no issue and in the 5th flight after the rebuild the pinion gears get broken again!!! He is so frustating for that and is going to stop this project and get to look for another heli.

I have mine built and waiting to get rest of electronics (ESC, fbl and batteries) and I don't know what to do. I am thinking about selling the heli and get a Logo 500 for instance, because I am afraid I get the same problem and a big heli can hurt somebody...

Another thought I have is to wait until the new TT pinions are available and get them. I have a feedback from an official outrage pilot who is testing these pinions for a while and he is not experience any problem at the moment.

I have read about the use of lithium grease in the pinions to avoid these kinds of problems but I would like to know if all of you guys who has this heli and you are NOT an official Outrage pilot has experienced about these pinion gears issue that is not solved with the black pinion gears available right now.

Thanks a lot in advance for your responses.

Regards.

Pinion gears breaking? The Gear that is on the motor shaft?

If it's the beveled gears in the tail instead he may want to try landing using an autorotation for the last few feet. Hit throttle hold just above the ground and float it down with the collective.

I would suggest that you go ahead, put the electronics in there and fly it. Unless you are beating the daylight out of the heli, you should not have problem with gears -- black or white -- if you set up the mesh correctly.

I have over 100 flights on a set of gears with out problem ( I also auto mine) I only replaced the gears because they looked worn out and did not want to have it stripped during piro-flipping.

guys the TT gears are not that bad. geezzz, everyone seems to make them out to be the worst thing. the front TT gear is really not adjustable. take the boom block housing and install just the TT gear. bolts it all together nice and tight and try to move the beveled gear up and down and side to side. it shouldnt move. if it does, ready the sticky about it. mine was perfect. same goes for the tail saide of the gears. build it and check the mesh. make sure there is no backlash. make sure they all spin smoothly.
they very well have high and low spots cause the TT not to spin perfect. its ok. fly it and it will loosen up some.

If I was closer to the maiden I would take your advice and just fly it but since I am not real close and the new gears are on the way I am going to wait. I am by no means a stick banger and my stock gears would probably last a long time but I would like to be safe.

I sport fly and do mild 3D on an 8S power system. The only TT gears I have stripped was the very first set on the first landing (stuffed the tail blades into a concrete landing pad). Hardly the fault of the gears!

For the record, I'm flying with the original white gears, have never done any of the mods listed here either. All I did was make sure they meshed correctly and I apply silicone grease every 20 flights or so.

Go fly it.

I'm on 500 flights/45 flight hours and still.... have not stripped a single gear in flight. I have only stripped gears during botched autos.

To the OP... what is your friends governor gain set to? This may be the problem.

Also, synthetic or white lithium greased is a good idea, I have been using it since day one.

Fly it...I did the recommended tail mods. Flying white gears in front, black on the back. No issues

Pinion gear breaking???? Something is wrong and I bet you it is his fault. Maybe he has the shaft in wrong. Only thing I could think off.

No issues with the bird. Get it up and fly it you will love it.

I dont think he meant the actual pinion gear, I have never in all my years of flying heard of a straight pinion gear breaking. My guess is he means the TT gears and worded it wrong.

I have 2 50's one mild setup and the other runs crazy head speed . Both rock solid never stripped a gear ,but once on little to hard auto and tail blades hit . go for it these are great ,your build must be right and you will never have a problem-just fly it

I said TT gear breaking, not pinion gear. That one is almost impossible to get broken, hehe.

By the way, thanks a lot guys for all of your feedbacks. I will buy rest of electronics and fly the heli.

That quote from post #1 had us confused.

The TT gears are not called pinion gears.

I love my fusion and use it a lot, I beat on it pretty hard with a high power 90 size motor and 12s packs and have never had an in flight failure of any part.

Just set it and check the tt gears are set properly as mentioned above.

Doing lot of piro reversals and running 2300+ rpm stripped TT gears readily for me. But backing off to 2200 and softening the stops helped greatly. I'd replace them every 50 flights max and they would hold. They do wear though especially if you fly off dirt. Also liberally applying molykot helped considerably.
