All I can see is that metal plate inside the ESC ,, well I'm not sure if that acts as a heat sink or not ,, but if I'm using a separate BEC like the SportBec .. do I really have to install a heat sink on the ESC or not if I'm after long safe duration and cool running motor / ESC
If yes ... on which side should I install the heat sink Thanks a lot for ur help |

I wouldn't worry about it. My CC45 running with the medusa 28-40-3400 motor barely gets warm while the motor is hot like hell. I am using a UBEC on a 4S A123 system though. But if the ESC doesn't feel hot, don't bother.

I have the CC35 as well, and without a separate BEC it will get hot. If you are trying to setup the head with lipo plugged in and using the CC35 bec its gets quite hot. I have just installed a Sportbec and also changed out my head linkages, so during head setup I would check the heat. No problems with Sportbec installed! CC35 was cool and Sportbec wasn't even warm. I did notice a slight change in servo speed with 6V. The cyclic servos seemed a bit faster!

This is the reason I went with a BEC too. My ESC never gets warm.
I did fry my son's Phoenix 10 ESC on his heli. Good thing for that flat rate repair program they have. I love CC

I love the flat rate program as well. Both times they just sent me a brand new ESC in replacement for my used and abused 3 yr old Phx 10 and 3 year old Mamba 35, it only cost $15 for each, best in the business IMO.
