Question Wren main shaft little play

Hello Wren 44 users, I'm mounting a Wren 44 on a RevMod converter T-Rex 700N mechanic and - since this is the first Wren 44 I've in my hands - I've a little doubt.

As I've tried to show in the video attached, I've noticed that after having mounted the Align fan/clutch assembly on the Wren 44 main shaft (of course with included washer between fan base and output shaft bearing), when I rotate the shaft from the fan assembly, there's a little play that cannot be felt without fan assembly, just gripping with fingers the main shaft itself.

Here's the video link showing the little play : https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31002320/Ma...aft%20PLay.3gp

Is that little play to be considered normal, as I would expect ?

Thank you
Denis

Hard to tell from the video.....

Is the play vertical, or is it a rotational play?

If it's rotational, does it feel like the fan/hub is rotating ON the shaft, or are you feeling the normal gear backlash in the gearbox?

It's only rotational so it should be gearbox backlash. There's no vertical play.

Only thing I noticed is that without fan/clutch assembly mounted on the shaft, just gripping it with fingers and rotating there was no feel of any backlash. I know that backlash can be felt as more as the diameter increases...but I paid attention at it before to mount fan assembly and I felt there was no backlash.
At the same time, even without fan mounted on the shaft, there was no verticla play...so I expect it be normal.

Denis

The bit of backlash is normal and necessary. Have fun!
