I asked this very question six month ago and received the same response, upon further research I was told that there really is no motor that has the reliability need for this size heli, makes sense, it would be cool to have the power to weight of a 500 and the endurance of a nitro!

The trex 500 is sick out of the box, why would you want to change it?

I would go for a Nitro Trex 500. I sold my 600 N and would like to have a 500 nitro size heli to fly. A 21 size motor would work great and probably have much more power than the Electric Set up. Many 21s have over 2 hp (~1500 W), and run good at 30-32 X10^3 rpm.

So if Align will not make it, why not come up with a modified kit, now that will be good.

No Way....... Huh,
I remember thats what everyone said about electric back not so many years ago. I bet if a 500 nitro upgrade kit were to come out either Align or aftermarket it would be hard to keep in stock! |

Looks pretty smooth actually. Pull start? Gotta be a car engine... Interesting. I'd like more info but there's literally nothing there! -Eric |

It's only a .18 motor, and we have yet to see any 3D. I suspect it would bog if pounded at all hard. A .21 may be a better choice if you can stuff it in there.

With good solid packs I find it quite a handful as it is in FFF. On my sims (Phoenix and AFP) there is no Nitro heli that performs as well. Cant see the purpose of Nitro myself, except longer flight times, even if you could the the DL correct. |
