That's what text messaging is for. LOL

Maybe we can convince Mikado to send you one for all of your support as well?

I am glad the manual finally got posted. Now I want one more than before.

Thanks Dave for all the information. I just built a 400se that I wanted to put JR servos in, but the older 3500 series weren't a good fit, how did the servos you got with the model fit? With the pressed in metal bosses I would be concerned if the servos weren't almost the exact size.

Thanks!

Mike

Dave Dahl posted the reason for the lead weight on the tail several posts back, but I will re-quote him to make things easy...

A: The only packs Kyle has at the moment for his Logo 480 are some 6S 4000's.

As I detailed in a previous post, using the maximum specified packs (which are 4000mah), the model starts to get nose heavy. The issue is not so much the weight of the packs, as that the physical size of the larger packs won't allow the pack to go under the pinion, forcing the packs to remain slightly too far forward for perfect CG.

Since Kyle is a stickler on set-up, he added some weight to the tail to obtain perfect CG with the larger packs. With smaller mah packs, the issue would be moot.

I hope this helps.

@ Smash McCrash,

Servos? Kyle used JR ELS-01's on the cyclic, and an ELG-01 on the tail. They have the standard JR servo mounting spacing for that size servo (7mm wide, 38.5mm to 39.5mm long), which is the same as the 3425HV / 3500 series.

Kyle had no issues with the servos fitting from what I could see and hear during the build (we were working on the heli together...Kyle doing the frames, wiring and electronics, and me doing the head and tail).

Hope this helps,

(-: Dave

Very fast build too. Going through this manual I could see the flow of the build with many familiar build steps. They have a coherent philosophy throughout all their helis regarding the build order. I could see it go together in my mind. Very nice.

Only weird thing is the wide plastic bottom, I guess they preferred to do that to a carbon tray to avoid added costs. Same with cross braces and upper bearing block. The big spacers on the landing gear caught my attention too. I like the openness of the front ESC tray, the back space for electronics and even the big space behind the lipo. I can see a full sized Vbar with sensor mounted down there. Everything looks good.
I agree 100% with marcosp has said, this looks like a really nice heli to build and maintain. I like everything they have changed and everything they have kept the same.

This new design does away with all the fiddly bits of the old 400 design (getting the motor mounted, getting the tail drive to fit square, getting the servos mounted etc).

The only thing I would like to change is the plastic spacers that hold the carbon tail together. I would have preferred a one piece plastic setup similar to what they are currently using on the 600SX.

One thing that does surprise me is how small this heli looks when Kyle is holding it. Looks like it’s going to make an awesome mid-sized little heli.

Great job on this one Mikado.

Thanks Dave. I like that you mentioned hearing that Kyle had no problems... gonna order a set at the LHS and see how they fit, and maybe just save them for a 480 in my future.

My buddy Matt (matt713) is at the Orlando Heli Blowout, and I've been trying to coerce him to take pictures of Kyle's 480 XXtreme's...and here's what he's sent so far.

Stay tuned, I'm hoping to get more...

I wonder if a Logo 630 XXtreme is coming based on this and the Logo600sx...

Nice photos Shane thanks for posting

Think I'd opt for the blue one. The design looks really light.

Great pictures. You'll have to send a thanks on all of our behalf to your friend Shane.

There is one thing though that sticks out for me like a sore thumb in those photos: anti-static kit with the black belt. Is that something you and Kyle added yourselves Dave or has Mikado finally admitted the black tail belts need static protection?

The manual does mention installing the anti static kit.

@ Jockpants,

I'm going to stay out of Mikado's official positions on anything

I will just say this: we ground ANY heli with a belt driven tail, regardless of brand or belt material / construction, whether a kit comes with the parts to do that or not.

You might note that in one of the pictures posted above, you can see a short grounding wire going from the front of the boom right to the metal boom supports in the frames...rather than all the way up to the motor mount or negative side of the battery.

Since the frames are CF, we checked good continuity from the rear belt idler bearing at the tail box all the way to a motor mount bolt with this set-up. If you think ahead (we didn't) and remove some of the boom's coating where it meets the boom supports, you might not even need the wire connecting the boom to the frames. But, you still need to connect the rear idler bearing to the boom as is standard practice (due to the plastic tail box mounts insulating the tail box from the boom).
