Ok, I may catch a bunch of flak over this, but WTH ! I didn't want my gryo in the boom block because of the ESD issue. I also didn't want my Rx near the boom block. I have spoken with Rick Lohr (rdlohr on Helifreak) and he is willing to make these replacement trays for the Rx/Gyro. For what's it's worth, I tried my hand at roughing one out and this is what I came up with. It's solid as a rock, does not flex like the orginal tray and hopefully takes the electronics far enough away from the boom block to prevent future problems.
CONTACT RDLOHR here on helifreak if you would like to order one. Is there any interest in this upgrade ? Rick sent me one which should be here Monday or Tuesday....... I can take more photos then. Here is the production version from rdlohr:

Its a nice idea. I sent ChasHeliCop a prototype version for him to try. We can tweak it to be what people want. PM or email me if you want one. Price will be a bit more than my other mounts at $16. Just specify TREX500 mount. If there is enough interest, I'll supply them to ReadyHeli, Modefos, and tech-mp.
Rick

LOL, "frosted"
I usually use the term "brushed" when I refer to my night fins. Bob calls them "scratched up". I brush the night fins so they disperse light better. The "frosting" does make your mount easier to see in the pic. The prototype I sent you is clear on top and bottom to provide secure mounting surfaces for stick on velcro or two sided tape. The edges are brushed. Rick

Goog idea, but the problem with mounting it there, is you can't make adjustments easily if at all without removing it.
I would like to see it simular but stronger than the stock one. This way you could mount the rx on top, and the gyro underneath.

Rick thought of that. Actually, the gyro will already fit on the bottom of this one, or, you can remove the back two screws and tilt the gyro down to adjust, then refasten.

Ok guys, I have not had a problem yet.... this thing is sturdy and doesn't vibrate or bend like the stock tray. I got Rick's tray and installed, so here are some pics. Very nice improvement from the stock tray by Align and definitely worth it.

Looks nice!
Let me know if that length is right once you mount the electronics. I can shorten it or lengthen it to suit. Rick

Rdlohr,
The tray looks nice; I was wondering what the length from the rear potion of the frame. I did a quick mock-up I would need 35mm from the rear of the frame. Also, is there anyone out there could see a problem with putting the gyro this close to the receiver and/or the servo?

Dang Rick, you beat me to it, but I had to go measure. You have 35 mm with the length it is now and I think that it appropriate. It is exactly 41 mm from the rear screw hole to the end of the plate. But I also drilled my own holes. I placed them the exact distance from the inside as the stock tray. I also agree with Rick with the gyro on top, more protection in a crash.

Just to clarify my thought process a bit I am trying to get the gyro as far away from the bearings as possible and I need to leave room for my e-logger. I do not like the gyro on top, I had a minor crash and I now have a small crack in the frame, it saved my gyro. I may very put it on the top of the tray as it will be further away then setting on top of the boom block. I do appreciate the advice I need all I can get. rdlohr are these for sale at this time??

OK, I'll make a few up. They are $16 plus $2.50 shipping to US.

Here is the production version:
Turns out drilling the holes takes more effort than I expected. Price will be $16 with hardware shown in the picture. (Unless you already ordered one then I will honor the original price) Rick
